Unhappy

I'm looking for a acoustic coupler modem for my Visor Deluxe. I know "www.pocketscience.com" makes one for the palm but it isn't compatible with the visor. I really like the fact of no wires and you can use them on any phone even cell (except pcs). Anyone know where I can get one? I've looked for a couple hours online with no luck.

Does the coupler just plug into your Springboard modem? And are the dial tones initiated from the modem or the phone?

Cool

A acoustic coupler plugs into the jack on any modem. The pocketscience backflip " https://shop.pocket.com/?a=bf- " seems to have the modem and acoustic coupler combined, check it out. I've never actually used or seen one in person so i'm not exactly sure how it works. I e-mailed them asking if they where going to make one for the visor and they basically told me to keep checking there news page. So anyway I've decided to just make my one device. So far it will work like this. I'm going to have a cable connect to the hotsync port on the bottom and the other end will be hard wired to a portable modem. I picked up the modem on the internet for 5 bucks, it's a 14.4 and runs off a 9 volt battery. Then all that is left is to plug in a acoustic coupler to the portable modem. Also I have found a case for the visor that works pretty good. It is one that I found at Wal-mart that is suppose to be for a gameboy. For 6 bucks its big enough to hold everything and is hella cheaper than anything else. I'll have pics when everything is done...

Cool Any Luck with the Acoustic Coupler Yet?

I was beginning to wonder if I was just some kind of KOOK for thinking the BackFlip was today's overall best choice for e-mail! Glad to find other KOOKS in the Visor universe. While a BackFlip module would be pretty cool (logical too), I don't think I wanna' wait for something that "might" come out... someday! I've checked on the acoustic couplers listed and am very interested to find out if anyone's had any break-throughs lately. Let's keep this post going - an acoustic modem makes sense!

Lightbulb

Hey there, the pocketscience device is just for e-mail to the links below will help you build a device that you can surf the web on your visor from a payphone! Also below is instructions on how to make your own acoustic coupler. I made mine out of a conair flip phone (10 bucks at wal-mart). Works good on my laptop connects at 2,800bps not to bad I guess.

http://www.markspace.com/datacord.html cable from visor to modem for 30 bucks.

http://web.tiscalinet.it/goony1/telephony/coupler.txt Build your own acoustic coupler. The heck paying 99 dollars for a new one!

All in all I have about 55 bucks into this so far. I'm just waiting for my datacord to arrive right now... I'll let ya know how it works. Glad some people are showing interest in this.

Cool Spin123 for President!!!

Spin- Thanks for the post and the links. You and I seem to have the same burning desire to make stuff (functionally sound and REALLY ugly). I'll probably make a "go" of this shortly and will post my progress (if I have any). How about giving me a headstart by pointing me to where I might find a battery operated modem? Thanks again for sharing your ingenuity. PS: I saw that they make a modem cartridge for GameBoy ($25 at BestBuy). So you think there's any way that the GB modem may be adapted to our needs?
