Maybe exclusive wasn't the right word. Probably meant "official" and the only one allowed to sell it for $149, but who knows?

the good site seems to now express that palmgear is the place to go. they even called them "our partner". personally, i think this is a big mistake. i ordered mine from palmgear and it took its time getting here (13 days when i paid for "priority mail").

palmgear never answered my emails looking for a tracking number and when i spoke to a rep she said she would call me back with it in 5-10 mins. she never bothered.

i emailed good today to basically say that i love the unit but palmgear is poo. if a SG2 is coming out, and they are only available from palmgear, i'll pass.

Ordered mine yesterday, received an email indicating it shipped today (two day mail). Hopefully it will show up before the weekend.

Regarding -

"Read this as you will, but my take was just that Good Tech. wanted to compete more favorably with Innogear's latest price drop and it is cheaper and more cost effective for them to produce the Soundsgood player by using only one distributor."

Anyone who knows anything about getting a product into the retail channels knows that you dont spend the time and money they did getting it into the channels only to turn around and pull them off the shelves to sell exclusively through Palmgear

Cool Good is pretty good

I sent an e-mail to SoundsGood asking them about the car stereo adapter and where I can get one. I received a very pleasant e-mail from someone(won't mention her name) that she'll send one to me for free.

How's that for customer service? Good plans on being there for good. It is without a doubt the best customer experience I've had in along time buy computer-related equip.

If there is a SGII, I'll be in line to get one.

L8r,

Jon

Angry 14MB File Limit???

By searching through the FAQ on Good's web site, it says that this product has a file limit of 14MB. While that might be of no concern to most people, it appears that if I were to buy this product, that I would have to split up my high-encoded files or songs longer than 12 minutes at 160kbps in order to listen to them. The Rio 500 doesn't have this limitation and this is the first device I've heard that would make such a limitation.

Why is this limit in place and are there plans to remove this limit?

Amazon sells it for $149. And they have it in stock. With the $10 AMEX/AMZN coupons still floating around, you can pick one up for $139.

If I don't care about expandability, is this a much better choice than the MiniJam?

sure! better form factor, considerably faster download time, and you wouldn't be supporting innogear's way of doing business.

I agree -- the SOundsGood is a really good module, especially at the price it's going for now.

I bought mine at full price (but I don't regret it one bit) and I've enjoyed using it for some time now. The sound quality is excellent (especially if you get a good pair of earphones to go with it) and it really doesn't drain my Prism's batteries very much.

Another good thing is that the module can store files OTHER than MP3 files -- just change the file extension from whatever it was to .mp3 and you can transfer files between your home and office PC (which I do all the time). Of course, the 14MB file size limit is still there.

Oh yes, above all, DO NOT drop the module -- when I got mine for the first time, I dropped it while pulling it out of the Visor and the sound came out all wobbly/fluttery. However, Good was kind enough to UPS me a new module within a week, at their cost, even though I live in another country! -- their customer support is second to none!

I personaly like the mini-jam more than the sounds good, however it's more a personal prefrence than anything else, I was under the impresstion that innogear had droped the price of the minijam to compete with the SG, but I'm not sure.....

I think they had dropped the price and/or also offered a free extra 32MB, but I don't see the extra card on their site anymore. Now it's listed as $200 for a 32MB unit and $260 for 64MB, which is considerably more than the Soundsgood. But hey it's expandable and has Mac support!

And it looks like the minijam has color suport now, maby I missed that...

Yeah I just noticed that Amazon is still advertising MiniJam for $200 with 64MB MMC too.

Cool No Complaints Here (for the most part)

Last Thursday I finally got the cash to get the SG, now that it's $149 at PG. Unfortunately, they were having website troubles (as usual, it seems, alas) but I was not to be denied! I literally sat for a half hour hitting submit, trying to get past the shopping cart and into checkout. And that was AFTER I spent another half hour trying to find a working link to the offer. My persistence paid off as I connected to the purchase page after a multitude of clicks, and I punched in my c-card info like there was no tomorrow, all the while praying not to get knocked off by my ISP.

Ignoring the PG horror stories in this venerable forum, I opted for next day air for $15; next BUSINESS day, unfortunately, as this was Friday pm. However, the gods were smiling because I actually got my package on Monday afternoon, complete with Energy Clip for $200 and change. I'm ripping my CD collection as we speak. Expandability be damned! Everything we buy is obsolete these days the moment we sign on the dotted line, and I'd rather have a small & fast obsolete MP3 player than a chunky, pokey obsolete player of dubious parentage. May Palm, Visor, and especially the SG live on, Bill Gates be damned, too!

I ordered one from Amazon.com on Monday and it arrived today. It's very nice.

Few complaints:
1. I wish the EnergyClip was cheaper (currently $40).
2. Needs better sound control (it has bass/treble control but not very effective).
3. The forward button is too close to the headphone jack.
4. If you adjust volume with the knob, you gotta turn the know a LOT. Each turn raises/lowers the volume very little. It's great for fine adjustments, but bad if you want to raise/lower the volume quickly.

Few praises:
1. It has very fast USB transfer.
2. Sound is crisp.
3. Really easy to use desktop software.
4. ID3 tag support; clear display.

Memory is really not a problem. 64MB is plenty for daily use. The only time that I really need more music is when I'm travelling, in which case I take my CD player and my CD wallet with 32 CD's. More memory really wouldn't be able to provide 32 CD's worth of music anyway. All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase.
