I received my Visor back in November and have been thrilled with it ever since. But, like most of the pioneers, mine developed scratches, the top of the case cracked and broke off, and the screen was loose inside the case (maybe I dropped it one too many times!). After dealing with these problems for far too long I decided to call in for a replacement. CS was courteous. I called in Friday and got a new on Monday. I reloaded it with my favorite programs and was on my way. But there was something different--the screen had a yellowish/greenish tint that was more pronounced than my original. I also noticed that it lacked some of the sharpness of the original. I have read that some users actually like the new screen better. But, alas, I am torn. I like the newness of the replacement unit-it's more sturdy and has no scrathces-but the old one has a superior screen. It's now Thursday and I haven't sent the original back yet. I may just put the original screen in the new case and be happy and just live with the scratches. What do you think?

I think that you should keep the new one and adjust the screen. I think you will get used to the new screen. Many here have said that the screens are better than previous ones (and I could imagine so... I can't see the screen gettting worse). You better decide soon. According to what I have heard, that you have two weeks in which to send back one of the units to handspring. After that time you may be charged!

The new screens you are describing sound like those used in the Palm III series (IIIx, IIIe, and IIIxe). They have a lighter, almost tan background compared to the earlier Visors greenish screen. Do the icons and text have a slightly brownish tint instead of black?

Yes, they do and it's not very appealing. My original's screen's icons are decidely black and the background is lighter which makes for greater contrast and readability. I was reading news on AvantGo and my eyes hurt! That has never happened with the old one. I think I'll ask for a seconnd replacement just in caseI got a dud.

Question

I was wondering.. being also in the 'pioneering' group, my screen is rather badly scratched by the stock stylus. Now that I've learned the use of replacement styli and screen protections, I might think about getting a replacement screen; how much did Handspring charge you for yours?

I didn't get a replacement screen. They sent me a whole new unit. But from reading other posts, they'll charge $75 for repairs. I'l be calling them back tonight to tell them I'm sending the replacement back for a replacement. we'll see what happens.
