It was well outside of Pittsburg.

One big problem is communications around the area. I can't reach my grandma or aunt and uncle who both live on Manhatten.

Unhappy

Guys,

I thank God I was running late to work because my office is in One world trade center on the 96th floor. I arrived just after the second plane hit.

There are many of my co-workers missing and I am asking for all of you to pray with me for those that died today. I am so saddened by the loss of so many lives and all I have left of many of them is the records I have in my Clie.

May God bless those that lost their lives today.

As I said in another thread, we live within 2 miles of Camp David and, also, we had dinner in the Window on the World in the World Trade Center North Tower in June, so we are shaken, but Mikedemo, yours is truely a mixture of prayers of thanks and awful loss. My husband and I have indeed been praying for those who died or have been injured, all day long.

How? All I can ask is how could this happen. We are the United States for God's sake! This just doesn't happen to us. Both my brothers are 18, so I pray to God we don't go to war. The thing that makes me mad the most is that this wasn't an attack by bombs. It was an attack by airplanes! Monsterous airplanes with ~70 people on each. God, my mouth literally dropped when I saw that plane crash into the side of the building. Jesus, only a few hours before, the plane was filled with cheery people, maybe some looking forward for a vacation, make some kids wanting to see their grandparents or uncles or aunts. Then..in the blink of an eye, a plane turns from that to a flaming fireball, crushed in an instant. Jesus, there were car sized or larger chunks of concrete, and BODIES, yes HUMAN BODIES falling 110 stories. Handicappied people stuck on the highest floors, helpless, unable to go down the stairs. Think of how this affects me, and I didn't even lose a loved one. My only relative who lives in Manhattan near the Trade Centers had his building evacuated as soon as they heard the first shockwave. Then, on the ground, he saw the second airplane crash. The hopes and dreams of 70 people crushed in an instant.

You know, I was assigned a 500 word essay on "True Freedom comes from Self Restraint" today, and I'm not even worried about it. I couldn't care less right now. All I can say is that today these people had their freedom stolen from them today. And I can only pray that God is making it up to them in Heaven right now.

God bless those brave pilots who refused to fly into those buildings themselves, and indeed, God Bless America.

Wow that is amazing...It is good to hear you are OK.
All my sympaties go out to those involved in this tragedy.

I sure hope Bush is not going to go trigger happy and start a mini WWIII..

It is a very sad day indeed...

This is very seious, but let's not get carried away. We don't even know who is behind this yet...and it is doubtful that it is a country. I also don't think a draft would go over in the country very well in this day and age.

Keep in mind that this very well could have been an attack in the name of God (allah).

Religion plays a big part in this...on both sides.

What I've been saying all day abou going to war on account of this attack is that we can only have a war if some country is willing to stand with the terrorists. I don't expect to see that.

I think that's right. War is extremely unlikely.

On the other hand, if some country does come out and stand with (or shelter) those responsible, I think the President has made it pretty clear that the consequences will be dramatic. Frankly, you come into our country and kill 10,000 + innocent people (based on some estimates - I hope they are wrong and that it's lower, but it looks bad), well, then it is an act of war. One thing history should have taught the rest of the world - if you start a war with the U.S., it usually goes rather badly for you in the end. Even VietNam, while ultimately a loss, was something of a hollow victory for the North.

Some folks have compared this to the second Pearl Harbor. Here'e a little historical factoid for you. The admiral that planned Pearl Harbor was touring the Pacific by airplane later in the war. Our intelligence folks got wind of his route, and sent a couple of long-range fighters to intercept his plane. They shot it, and him, down. No one considered that an "assasination" or otherwise wrong. Hopefully, we find the people responsible for this and mete out the same fate to them.

Mike, I'm glad you are safe, and I'm sorry for your loss. One of my bigger clients was based out of the WTC, and I rather fear for the worse, so I have some idea of what you are going through. Our prayers are with you.

This is the face of modern war. War as most people think of it no longer really exists. Probably not a war against a particular nation, but certainly against some institution.
As a member of the armed forces, I've trained for and thought about and considered time and time again situations where there is large loss of life in a short period of time; until now, it has all been theoretical scenarios and the "possible" future. Now that it is a present reality only confirms the gravity and heinousness of it. Just because you know it may come one day does nort lessen the sting one iota.
This also shows, and I'm sur ethe American people are now ready to believe, that there is no real way to counter terrorist attacks such as these. (That's one of the reason's people use them: it works.) You can try to catch people before they act, and stop them while they're they'r eplanning or preparing; and you can plan how to recover from such situations, but there is no way to predict and be ready for the multitude of numbers of possibilities and opportunities that exist for terrorism. Consider that when people start to blame the government for not having measures in place to prevent this from happening (fortunately, I have heard very little of this so far). We have prevented many acts from being carried out, but some things you just can't plan for or predict.
Again, what an awesome (in the true sense of the word) tragedy. Don't forget that when the time comes to take action against the perpetrators. My prayers, as well as the prayers of many others, are with all affected.

I doubt if it would even be necessary at the moment. I'm sure there would be more than enough volunteers.

Unhappy

My prayers and thoughts go out to the victims, their families and the whole U.S.

What we are facing here is unbelievable - it is a tragedy for the whole world. Terrorists showed us that they do not need to bring in any bombs or stuff like that to terrorize us - they use tools they find in our country - the bring terror to us by using us!

Germany said that they will help the U.S. on EVERY basis. I really hope that we are not facing a WWIII - but those cowardly terrorist have to be brought to justice.

Good bless us.

Take care
Chris
