Question Visor Phone in Canada?

Does anyone know when (if) the visor phone will work in Canada?

Arrow Yes

Teh VisorPhone can work in Canada on the Fido Network. BUT, you would not be able to get any support from either FIDO or Handspring if you run into any problems. The VisorPhone is not yet available in Canada (officially). If you decide to get it, be prepared to pay a huge amount of money on ebay.

Visor Phone in Canada

Technically, the phone will work on the Microcell / Fido GSM network. They will likely not allow you to register it on their network though; proper network testing and programming needs to be done first.

Handspring has said they are hoping to officially launch the Visor Phone in Canada soon. Although a priority for them, no date has been mentioned.

Another option is the AirPrime (www.airprime.com) SB3000 CDMA module for the Visor. The SB3000 may be released in Canada this fall.

I guess I am hoping that a phone option will eliminate one device to carry. However, I am not one of those people who like to be on the 'bleeding edge'. I prefer version 1.1. Perhaps I will have to wait a while still.

If I were to buy a VisorPhone through their special "free VisorPhone" deal right now, and have the phone activated through Cingular in California, would I still be able to use the VisorPhone on Microcell in Canada? My concern is that the VisorPhone may be locked by Cingular if I activate it first in California.

I expect you will be able to use it, but with roaming charges.

I see you're in BC. All you need is a Fido SIM and a good friend in the States willing to get a Visor and a service plan. That's like a big plate of salmon for Canadians.

Thanks for your replies. I think I will start calling my friends in the States to see if anyone wants a Visor + new GSM plan.

Is there any chance the VisorPhone could be locked by Cingular or Voicestream when I purchase and activate it?
