HotSync detected but doesn't sync

Hi all,

Got a strange problem. I could not get the VXD to hotsync with PalmDesktop 3.1. When I press the hotsync button, the hotsync manager actually detects this and you see the hotsync box pops up. But thats all it seems to do.. and nothing else. If I cancel it from the VXD, this is detected again and the box will disappear.

The comm port should be correct if not hotsync manager will not be able to detect this. I have soft reset the Visor.

Question:
1) Do I need to hard reset the Visor?
2) What can I do? Where can I look or troubleshoot?

I'm running Win95a.

Thanks
Kelvin Wong

At the top of the hotsync box does it say it is syncing different applications? Right click the hotsync icon, choose custom and make sure the apps are set to sync. They could be set to do nothing.

Try a soft reset and then sync... it cures a lot of ills

Well, I have done a soft reset, hard reset, rebuilt the computer... don't work.

Now.. its seems like the cradle is really faulty (which I didn't believe at first, after all a cradle is pretty passive component). I managed to get a USB (but not serial cradle) to connect and sync, but when swapped back to serial... same problem again, even on another machine.

Guess, I gotto go get a new cradle!

Thanks for all your advises and help

The USB cradle is passive but the serial cradle uses a conversion circuit (powered by the serial port) to convert between RS-232 (PC) and TTL (Visor). It is possible that your serial cradle is defective.

Cradle replacement

If you're going to replace your serial cradle, might I suggest a good alternative - a hotsync travel cable, which is electrically the same as a serial cradle but in a much more compact form - just a standard cable.

That's available from www.pcables.com.

Note, you won't find that one on the online catalog, but just send an email to [email protected] and they can sell you a PDCH-H9.
