There have been a couple threads discussing the format of the forthcoming TRGPro. You can also find extensive details by reviewing this thread at PalmStation:

Now, as for the difference between the two, the major one lies in the ability to have simple and instant access to data as the Visor does. Hawkins designed the springboard so that it works as true Plug n' Play. You insert the card, bamm! you're application/device add-on is immediately and simply available.
In the case of the TRGPro, it appears that they've implemented some software that will make the additional memory available from CF cards in a different fashion. Still, I believe you will have to configure your modem or barcode scanner (or whatever other device is forthcoming in CF format) so that it's recognized by the Palm device. But really, the TRG Pro is directed towards folks who use large databases or need to carry around large numbers of documents. Primarily this responds to a need in certain enterprise, corporate, and medical fields. Most personal users of PDAs won't find them as useful as the Visor. However, memory is far more inexpensive in the CF format than it appears to be in the springboard format.
Of course as always, YMMV.
