Well, flying aging jets is a little more dangerous than drinking warm beer in a pub and "not inhaling".

You see this is the problem with America and Americans. They feel that the rest of the world cannot do without them.

There is a big difference between me saying the US is threatening to "leave France behind" and me saying the world cannot exist without the US. Please don't (even if unintentially) put words in my mouth.

Of course the rest of the world can do without the US. I *would* however, make the argument that the US does indeed have massive power over virtually every aspect of the world. That is not to say we are responsible for maintaining life on this planet.

That is true, and I knew it even as I was typing. However, i stated it the way i did b/c the initial point was basically "who stayed out of Vietnam."

P.S. Why do you think the beer was warm??

Wasn't the man in question a Rhodes scholar? All the best drinks in England are warm. Of course the "cool" London pub scene bears no resemblence to this.

As a Canadian and therefore a member of NAFTA, you should just be quiet and follow the United States on this.

Oh, I'm sorry -- that's just okay when it's France and the EU, isn't it?

I know you did. I was just funnin'

When I was there 24 years ago, the draft beer in the pubs was warm. They probably have cold beer now. England is very Americanized, oops I meant to say civilized now.

Well now that you bring this up...

Canada should have become part of the European Union than NAFTA. Canada and Canadians have similar views and values as the Europeans. Canada needs to diversify its trade.

With regards to the French issue, I am withdrawing what I said earlier. The French had no right to bully the future EU members in that way. The French did what they did in frustration and I wrote what I wrote in frustration.

This is why discussion like these are great! I, too, have changed some of my thinking after "talking" to you and ToolKit (you two in particular, but others as well)

For example, I have learned that just because I think the USA is the greatest land ever, doesn't mean that everyone shares my opinion, and, that it is okay that they don't. I am evaluating *why* governments and people act the way they do and, frankly, I am paying more attention to the news b/c I want to understand what y'all are talking about!!

Also, yardie--I love that you are big enough to flat out say that you are reevaluating your previous post and why. Good show!

Wow, does this mean that discussing your views and opinions can actually change how people think? We all have adjusted our views after hearing the others talk...
Isn't that what the UN is about too? resolving issues without the need of force where possible.. (yes in some cases force is the only sollution, but IMHO it should be the last resort..)

Same thing in holland, drinking Corona is considered cool...

I guess it is the same thing with Heineken being a premium beer in the rest of the world while it is a very normal beer in Holland (like bud in the US)

Heineken is only a premium beer in the minds of those who consider Sam Adams Boston Lager an 'import' in an American establishment. I consider it exactly in the same boat as Bud. It's slightly better if it's been stored properly (green bottles and beer should never mix), but on average, it's an EIL (European Industrial Lager).

I will join the discussion when you guys start talking about wine. All beer taste disgusting. I don't know how people can drink that thing.

Green bottles... argh.. one of my favorite beers is Grolsch, but they put the export stuff in green bottles.. That plus a month long boat trip to Sydney changes the tast considerately... the local Grolsch is 10x better than the export stuff.. it is the only lager that really stands out between other lagers (ie in a blind test you pick the Grolsch easiest).
Going to Uni in the town of the Grolsch brewery got me hooked on it, however given the taste an price of th export stuff I hardly ever drink it anymore..

Do they still put it in the bottles with the little gasket plugs? I haven't had any since I was in Amsterdam many years ago.

Aha! Now this is starting to all make sense. What are you feelings about Jerry Lewis? Goose liver pate? David Hasselhoff?

Yep, sure do, in the US (at least in CA) they sell them at beverages and more...
They do sell them in normal botles too, but the 'flip top' is kind of their trademark.. The export ones are with plastic plugs, while the local market are still with the good old ceramic tops...

JL: dont really know him
GLP: dont like pate much...any kind that is.. but the connaiseurs say the ones from the Perigord region in France is best..
DH: knightrider rocked... but DH should NOT sing period...

As for wine, I prefer a good bold Shiraz (pref. from the Barossa valley) during diner.
Also (chilled) sparkling shiraz is nice on a warm day...
For whites I prefer semmilion and chardonnay..

You'll be waiting a while then. I've got enough beer talk to last a while.

How many styles of beer have you tasted? There's far more variety in beer than wine could dream of. Not that wine is bad per se. I had a glass of a relatively inexpensive bottle of Ecco Domani Merlot last night that wasn't bad.

I don't see how anyone could _not_ enjoy a good stout or porter.
