My Thinmodem troubles....

Has anyone else had a problem with the thinmodem similar to what I experecend at COMDEX? (detailed here http://visorcentral.com/content/Stories/1315-2.htm )

I'm worried that the true fact that I destory what I touch is getting to me.. This is my 9th visor (ok, no screen damage on any of them, and really only 4 ofthem broke), on a review case I've broken the beltclip twice.. 2nd stowaway... 2nd Aluminum slider........

It doens't look like I could hand solder and fix the thinmodem myself - the surface mounted pins are what holds up the connecter and they snapped in half right in the middle of the wire...

I e-mailed Card Access at 1:30 am... hopefully will hear a responce back monday...

g'night everyone...

No problems here. I did notice that the dongle was difficult to pull out of the module, and I have removed the entire springboard several times just trying to pull the dongle out. I have taken to using one hand to hold the module in, and using the other hand to pull the dongle off.

As for the other "durability" testing you've been doing......wow. Either you drop things just the right way, or I am extremely lucky. I dropped my VDX several times, including about 5 feet onto asphalt, with the only damage being a chip out of the case. Just last week I dropped my Prism about 4 feet onto a tile floor with no apparent side-effects. My condolences to your other equipment.

Well CardAccess e-mailed me back with an RMA number and an address to ship it to (yeah!).... I'll ship it today hopefully...

As for my other Visors...

Let's start - beltclips break, especially if their plastic, and metal can squeak really bad. Stowaways can be hurt if they hit the ground, and visors can to - though Visors have more paint problems and other issues - NO SCREEN DAMAGE EVER! (I'm very proud of that)

Amen to that. My VPL has been dropped 5 times in its young life of 3 and a half months, most recently yesterday. When I dropped Sunday, I can honestly say that that moment was the closest I have come to a heart attack in my life.

Not even the time that one of my ribbon snakes cannibalized the other did I come that close
