Question Cannot connect using my cell

I just bought a cable from gomadic.com and try to connect using my cell phone. I got the following error message:

Error: PPP time out (0x1231)

I have VerizonWireless, Visor Platinum and a Kyocera2035a cell phone. I followed the instruction from gomadic.com (at http://www.gomadic.com/support.htm##6). Help!

What model Visor are you using? If it's a Deluxe, it's known to be difficult to use the Verizon QNC (something about the differences between OS 3.1 and 3.5).

Assuming you're using an OS 3.5 model (and that the phone is dialing or attempting to connect), the PPP error would indicate to me something wrong in the Network settings. Double-check everything... maybe even do a soft reset of the Visor.

I have a Platinum (w/ the latest HS patch, no hacks).

Take a look at the Verizon Mobile Office site. They have a PalmOS User Guide (PDF). Maybe something in there will help.

Hi SpeakerCoach,

I would be interested in the details of your solution. I had been very successful in connecting to the internet with my Prism using a Motorola StarTac 7868 but have now switched to a Kyocera 6035 SmartPhone.

I have no problem connecting using the Palm powered SmartPhone by itself but have bought the same cable that you did, hoping to add some color to my internet experience during those long, lonely nights at the Holiday Inn.

I have tried various network and connection settings with no joy, just the "timed out" error.

BR,

BR,

Man, I know that feeling - maybe we'll run into each other one day and can play an IR game or something.

Y'all solved my problem in your discussion. The Gomadic web page instructions for the setup of my Platinum allowed me to dial up my ISP through the cable link to my Kyocera 2035 with no problem, then Blazer takes over.

Does connecting the cable to your 2035 wrecking it? My phone became erratic and I have to replace it today!!!

I've only used it a half dozen times or so, but there have been no ill effects so far. Also used it with wife's newer Kyocera and no problem.
