Exclamation

VisorCentral is currently working a new site design/navigation system.

A mockup of the new design is available at http://www.visorcentral.com/visor/default2.asp . A lot of stuff is not active yet, but it will give you a feel for the new site.

Please return to this topic and post your comments.

Marcus,

I've actually come to like the muted, simple layout you currently have. But I understand the need to change to keep things fresh (and the current design was set up in haste); the new look is pretty cool, and has a nice color scheme.

I like the "around the web" links at the bottom of the page. Gives the feel that this is a good jumping off point as well as place for information. BTW, don't forget to add a 'Discussion' link on the left...

Question

Very nice site. I love the way you have set up the dicussion groups.

One question: What is a "Member" vs. "Junior Member"

I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

Folks are listed as a 'Junior Member' until they have posted 30 messages on the site. It's merely a feature of the forum software, and certainly not a sign of one's true worth, eh?

I like the graphics on the new site (i.e. the top/visor with the Handspring logo, the colorful left and right sidebars) but I like the layout for that "latest news" in the center area on the existing front page that includes the titles and a short synopsis of the articles with appropriate hyperlinks. This way you can decide if the article is worth looking at further without having to follow the hyperlink.

Thanks for the reply Zippy.

I guess I'll have to start replying to a few of these.

After looking at so many Palm sites over the last month, I can honestly say that I really like the layout of your prersent site the most. Easy on the eyes, no nonsense, non cluttered, clean look. Change is always a little tough for some, but when you have a good thing.....

New logo: definitely better. Stuff on the right: would like it to go away/be reduced/ be moved. Back to the top button: I want one (especially for those long discussions).

PS: have you fixed the "I-gotta-scroll-to the-right-to-read-it-all" problem on some of the discussion pages?

It is a good design, and the layout is very simple to navigate. How is it VisorCentral can roll out TWO great websites, while Handspring is still floundering? Maybe they should hire you guys.

It takes a while to load relative to the older site but once it's loaded a few times it should be OK.

Much crisper and less scrolling on the opening page which is a good thing. I'd transition to it, if I were you guys.

Thank you everyone who gave their input on the new site design. I am glad to hear that most people like it. We are continuing to work on it and we hope that we can get it up and running within the next week or so.

Like the new logo and look. Now for the bad stuff. IMO the yellow is a bit hard on the readability (low contrast on the text) and the whole page seems a bit squashed. I think it would be fantatsic if you could eliminate the righ side somewhat. Keep up the good work.

I like the new one somewhat better than the old one, except for the logo. Ugh.

dstrauss: Granted, I think Handspring's web team doesn't seem to be very on the ball. But I think we can't really compare the two website efforts. Handspring no doubt has to deal with a *lot* more hits (by an order of magnitude or two), and they're trying to be able to take orders. Besides, I think that at least the discussion part of VisorCentral is pre-fab.

Likes: new logo, nav. menu on the left

Dislikes: yellow of the right menu, somewhat scrunched feel overall

I like it all, except for some reason the banner-ad being below the logo bugs me.

Guys, Ijust checked your new page again. I love the new look! A great improvement. Although I must agree the banner does look strange below the logo.
