Judging from the Visor's internals, Handspring could release/sell a replacement board with flash rom or at least a newer OS, since it's contained on a board separate from the rest of the Visor. Either offer installation for new users, or self-installs for owners whose warranty has expired.

I don't know if this could even be done cost-effectively, but the memory/processor were placed on a removable board for a reason. Any ideas on feasibility?

[edit] - no idea why I thought the EZ was on the board, so forget the full-Platinum upgrade unless it's through gethightech.com as a replacement motherboard..

They've got the board for the VDX, maybe they'll have the Plat board soon?

I saw that earlier today, but it's the motherboard as well. I suppose if they sell both for $100, then just an add-on board would be somewhat cheaper, since it wouldn't have springboard or IR ports to raise the cost. Anybody willing to try swapping a platinum board with a deluxe board?

The only OS 3.5+ feature I can think of that interests me is the support for 4-bit grayscale color, but it's not especially critical. So having flash ROM would be nice, but I'm not too worried about it.

A faster CPU is a little more interesting (maps get redrawn faster, maybe large databases are quicker), but we can always overclock.

More RAM... hmmm....
