What do YOU use Bluetooth for?

Hi All,

I'm about ready to get a new setup (Treo 90 w/ Nokia 6310i) utilizing Bluetooth - I have the Nokia on the way and I'm still looking for a deal on the Treo 90 and BT Card.

ANYWAY, the point of this thread is to spur up some ideas on what we could/can/possibly do with our PDA's and Mobile Phones.

Here are some applications that I had in mind - not sure if it's possible, but I'd sure like to find out how or get feedback if anyone else is using it:

1) SMS - Is it possible to SMS from the Treo 90 to the Nokia via BT - and be NOTIFIED that there are new text messages on the Treo, and delete the messages that are stored on the Nokia?

2) Security - How do you ensure no other users with BT devices can jump into your BT network and utilize the cell phone?

3) I can't think of anything else right now since I don't have the BT setup yet, but I'm sure I'll post more down the line...

I have made the BT jump and can offer you the following:

1. Not really, there aren't any good apps out there now that take advantage of BT activity for alarms/alerts. Would be nice though.

2. Bonding (automatic recognition between 2 devices) is the best way. Some BT implementations have other, somewhat more sophisticated approaches, but they tend to be less conventient (password every time, etc).

3. How about BT Hot Synching? BT Networking? BT Keyboard? BT Printing? There are a lot of options coming online now.

Good luck with your Bluetoothing - I really enjoy it with my Toshiba PPC.

I use it to communicate with my Apple Powerbook as an input device for Ink. Well, that's what I would like to use it for. That would be nifty.

Right now I use it to hotsync and access the web via a PicoBlue access point at work.

How to go Bluetooth?

I want to put BT in my Prism to link to my Laptop web connection, and to a BT enabled cell phone as well. Can I use a 802.11b cf card? Can I use the palm SDIO card?

The prism does not use SD so , no you will not be able to use a BT SDIO card, you'll have to get a BT springboard.

I don't have a treo right now and I am trying to find a better "bluetooth" solution. I have a PCMCIA BT Card but no bt phone. I still haven't found the "ultimate" BT phone.

The 6310i is too big and the T68i's menus are crap and the reception is weak.

I have a BT headset coming anyday now. I may have to jump to the Sony with the CF port if it can take the BT CF. Hear anything about it? Then there's the Tungsten T or W. You should check out www.expansys.com they sell Nokia 8910i and they available SIM free and unlocked, you can use your existing SIM from T-Mobile. You can pre-order it I don't the price but it should be availible soon.

About that weak signal on the T68i is that the cell reception or the BT? Maybe I should do the T-mobile Visor phone for Web access. Have you tried that?

I have a Tungsten T and a T68i. I have had no problem with the strength of the Bluetooth signal on either. The reception of the T68i has been lacking at times but I have been in rural areas and felt that this was due to T-mobile's coverage and not the phone.
