Unhappy

I just got my handspring visor and I'm trying to synch my OE addresses with my handspring visor. the only way that I seem to be able to do this is through exporting my contacts out of OE, but the fields in handspring are totally different than the ones in OE, and this seems to be the long way of doing things. Anyone have any hints?

p.s. I'm working on a mac, if this makes any difference.

I haven't personally tried this across multiple platforms (read: I've only done this using the PC version of OE and Palm Desktop).

Use Yahoo!'s Address Book as an intermediary. Export your Mac OE address book out to a file, then import it into Y! Address Book.

Then export the Y! Address Book back out to a Palm Desktop ABA format--- and import that file into your Palm Desktop.

However, as I mentioned, I've done this on the PC side and it works well. If there are any Mac differences, I'd be currently ignorant of them :-)

Hope that helps.

Ugh, tried to import address book from OE into yahoo, but the way OE exports the address book is not recognized by Yahoo Address Book. Does anyone have any more solutions?

Also, what is this Palm Sync Setup in my File menu for OE. I tried to see how this would work for in synching OE with my Handspring, but there doesn't seem to be anything that helps.

It can be done and works well once you get it set up... you need to install the conduit first and then use the Palm Sync Setup in the File menu to configure it. There's documentation somewhere on the system that tells you how to set it all up. Sorry I can't be more specific but I'm not at my Mac now to look up more information.

Good Luck

So I looked at the conduit settings on my palm desktop, which are set to "synchronize files" and also looked at the palm synch setup in OE, which is set to synchronize files.

People have told me that there isn't a way to truly synch address books between the two programs wihtout an extra program. I looked at palmgear and there does seem to be a program for PCs, but the Mac version seems to have some problems.

OK, maybe this will help...

Find the Palm Sync folder on your Hard Drive (mine was at HD/Internet/Internet Applications/Outlook Express 5.02/Outlook Express 5.02 Folder/Extras/Palm Sync). Hopefully you'll see an "About Palm Sync Installer" document there that will guide you through the process.

Smile

it worked. I had to combine some addresses and do a little finagling between my visor and desktop, but it worked. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, there always seems to be some "finagling" needed these days...
