Well, hey...

If the folks running VisorCentral would put a separate discussion forum for HVCS with our wonderful logo click-thru on the main page, and have an article about it for both online and AvantGo, then maybe we'd get more members.

Hmmmm???

If you write a nice article and sent it to James/Marcus I'm sure they'll publish it...

As of yet I don't think a seperate discussion is needed. The posts to this thread are few. But I agree, writing a nice article about the group and the Seti@Home project would probably get it's day to shine on the frontpage!

When my laptop's fan cuts out, it usually means one of two things:

* The air conditioning is cold enough to keep the system running cool
* SETI@Home is getting another work unit (and consequently isn't maxxing out CPU cycles)

When it cut out this morning, it was oddly unexpected.

Maximizing the S@H client window, I saw it calling out after only 53 minutes of crunch time, and something else (click Strong triplet detected 29 Nov 00 --> http://somecontent.homestead.com/pdas.html

You didn't have to quote the full post -- just the URL paragraph would've been fine.

After all, are you saying "Wow!" in regards to air conditioning, my laptop's fan, or the signal?

Hmmm... maybe you've located ET???

Can someone answer a dumb question for me? Does the SETI client work while any screensaver is running or just the SETI screensaver? I can't find this in any of the help or online documentation.

It's figured as a screensaver even though it can run as a background program full time to anything else.

So, no... you can't run another screensaver on top of it.

So how do you know if that signal means anything or not? Will they contact you? I would be interested in knowing what would cause that even if it wasn't ET .

Does anyone have a small amount of fast webspace that they would be willing to use for our logo? I notice that when I go to the team page sometimes it takes a while for the logo to load from my @home webspace. For the small one in my signature I use some AOL space (which works well), but I'm canceling AOL at the end of the year. Alternatively, I can go sign up for some free space if anyone knows of a good fast site.

I think that I remember hearing that they will contact you if you do in fact find "something." However, the pulse was probably a helicopter or airplane flying overhead due to the sharp cutoff of the signal and it's intensity.

Answering your other question, you can get some free web space at fortunecity.com. They actually give about 100 free Mb of web space. That should probably be more than enough.

Whatever you do, don't use Tripod in the next few weeks. They're moving their server and are s l o w.

The best one I found was xoom. However, it merged with Nbci to become something different with less space and a bit slower.

I'll second that vote for fortunecity. Homestead is also good. They don't ask twenty questions when you sign up and have a built-in stats viewer. And are fast.

Or maybe a UFO It could be an ET after all!

Thanks to rclayton our logo has found a new home (and he didn't make me fill out a questionnaire)! The team page should load faster (once Fishscaler changes the url).

If you want to use the small logo, the new address is:

We just made the VisorCentral Weekly e-Zine, though it's just a link, and buried between Ir Syncing and Do Bears Live in Woods?.
