So far we have IBM (Thanks for reminding me), Qualcomm, Handspring, TRG and Nokia licensing the Palm-OS which already owns 80% of the PDA market. Palm is becoming the Microsoft of the PDA world. This is great news for all Palm-OS users.
I'm sure glad I didn't buy a WinCE pda.

I'd rather Palm did *not* become the Microsoft of the PDA world, thanks.
It'd be nice if PalmOS became as common as Windows, though.

You left out IBM as one of the licensees of PalmOS. They produced the WorkPad.
I just got this update from Amandio J.S. Bacalhau:
The complete history is that Nokia & Psion (actually, Symbian) cross liceensed with 3Com.
Nokia cell phones WONT use PalmOS. Nokia cell phones gonna use EPOC from Symbian BUT the user interface will be similar to PalmOS.
The user interface used in the PDA's with EPOC is usualy EIKON but that user interface is not suitable for smartphones. Ericsson decided to make its own replacement for EIKON and Philips also but they are diferent from each other.
Now, the idea is to uniform the EPOC user interface in cell phones using the *user interface* (and nothing more that that) of PalmOS. They will NOT run PalmOS apps.
Regards
Amandio J.S. Bacalhau

Now I see that Amandio is probably wrong, since the Nokia press release says it will run PalmOS apps. (Thanks Bearpaw)

Well, that's nice, but who is Amandio J.S. Bacalhau and why should we care that he's contradicting the Nokia press release?
The release (see www.nokia.com) says, in part: "Nokia is licensing the Palm Computing Operating System (Palm OS) so it can implement the user interface and applications to run on the Symbian platform. Resulting devices will run both Palm and Symbian applications."

How long do you think it will take them to get a product to market?

Ok, how many folks think that Handspring and Nokia are in talks about licensing the Springboard? Seems pretty likely.
