Question Should I?

I have a plat which I love. I also have a jornada 525 which I find annoying. I love the color, but I really am not a fan of ppc. I have been thinking lately of selling the jornada and getting a prism (maybe refurb). I already have some modules for my plat and a keyboard, so I would like to stick with the visor line, but if anyone has any good advice on whether or not to get a prism, I'm all ears! Btw, is the prism as fast/faster than the plat? Thanks!

Speed: The Prism is a lot faster than the Deluxe, but I do not know how it compares to the Plat. I am using QuickBits which speeds it up even mroe quite nicely!

Other issues: The thickness of the Prism is one of the biggest drawbacks. It is annoying to see a cool case that you cannot use because of that extra 1/10th of an inch or so.

Overall, I LOVE my Prism, and now find the screens on the Deluxe to be rather 'dead'.

I had the Prism and enjoyed it. The screen was sharp and crisp and the processor was a lot faster than the PPC devices I have had.

I got rid of my Prism for a Sony Clie. I have a fear that Handspring will abandon the Visor line to the point that Springboard development will stop. You can't flash the OS, so if you opt for the Prism, you have little room to grow.

This is not a bad thing, it just depends on what you need out of a PDA. I opted for the 760. I know Sony has stopped manufacturing them but, for my need the 760 fits the bill and the OS can be upgraded if necessary. I use the PDA for contact management, appointment management, games, MP3 and checking my email when traveling. It fits my needs.

The new Sony's are due out next month and it will be interesting to watch how sturdy the swivel screen is. The T series is nice as well but I needed MP3 capability.

Don't get tied down to Handspring because of your modules. Thier is still a market out there for used equipment. I had really hoped Handspring would have come out with a color Edge by now but it seems they are focusing on the Treo.

Audiovox makes a nice device (Maestro) but I too can not stand PPC.

Good luck with your hunt.

I love my prism. It is a great PDA, especially if you already have some money invested in springboard modules. I considered changing to the Clie when I went from a deluxe to the prism, but found the cost of the Clie plus keyboard, memory stick (to replace my backup module and memplug), etc., to be hard to swallow. I am very glad I went with the prism. The only things I would say you need to be careful about is 1) if you use your PDA outside a lot and 2) battery life. Battery life for most things is actually fine -- I easily get 6 hours off one charge with the brightness set very low, but viewability outside in direct sunlight is quite poor. True, if Handspring abandons the visor line, I will eventually have to change, but for now, I recommend the prism highly.

Smile Thank You

Thanks for your advice. I have decided to go ahead and sell my jornada and get a prism. As far as viewing outside goes, I find that I rarely need to do that and am used to not being able to see my color screen outside (there is simply no viewing a jornada525 screen outside). Also, I have read a few places that Brando screen protectors do cut the glare somewhat making viewing outside a little better. I never really listened to mp3s on my jornada so I don't think I'll be missing out on that, plus I have a Lyra mp3 player and use that all of the time. I use my pdas primarily for pim functions and to keep track of my students' attendance and grades. (Okay, and I play some games too!) I guess my only concern is having to get a decent case for the Prism. Any suggestions? In any event, thanks a lot for your help. This is a great place to find help and information. Have a great week!

Well, if you have some money to spend, the Vaja case is beautiful leather, looks wonderful, is relatively thin, and allows you to use your prism without having to unzip or unsnap anything. Unfortunately, you do pay for the quality.

Enjoy your prism!

Go to www.directcase.com and get a Vaja case. It's worth the money.
