Awhile ago there was a thread here about people machining metal bodies for the visor....check this out

you can see other designs here:
http://www.dave.com/order.html

I'm not sure i'd pay the price...but if it was half the amount and they had them for the visor.....hmmm.......

The only pda's that they do are at that site are palm-3's; not visors. I wonder if they would consider doing a visor version at a discounted cost if it were of a reasonable volume. I would like to get a machined aluminum/titanium/magnisium visor casing. It vould look pretty slick with a springboard comming out of one section of it and the plastic screen cover sitting over the screen.

Are there other companies that do the same type of service? Could we figure out who can do this sort of thing, and with what materials, and for how much; and in what volume ?

Talking

i emailed dave a while back (when the topic first came up) and this is what he said:

Matt,

Eventually we may [make a visor version]. It's quite a bit more complicated because of the springboard slot.
The issue right now is the development time. Most of the effort is going into producing
the current product, so we haven't had time to tackle follow-on products. There have
been many requests for Visor, TRGPro, and especially IIIc cases, all of which would
be fun to do. Perhaps later in the summer when things have settled down a bit, there
will be time available to work on these projects.

Thanks for the interest,

Dave Ruigh

Exclamation

Damn...I got better stuff to do with $250!

You could get another freaking Visor Deluxe for that!@ Sheesh!

I'm guessing they're only making small quantities though, so I guess thats a reasonable price. Plus think about all the work that went into it.

I wonder how many of those they sell?

Peace

It's a problem -- way too costly, but man, it's beautiful. Personally, I'd be willing to pay about $150 for something like this.

Even 150 bucks will bring the base price of the visor to $400! man that is expensive.

Personally, I'd take the visor deluxe I only have a visor now, and though it looks pretty with the metal case, if I'm that desprate, I'll get some metalic paint, take my visor casing off, and spray paint it!

Yeah I'd pay 50 bucks for it, but $250!?!? That is waaay to much for a case. But I'm sure there are people who will buy it, and, like I said, you gotta think about the quantities that they're making (They're probably built to order) AND all the r&d that went into it. It's a lot of work and money to make something like that! But if I had $500 to spend on a visor, I would have gotten a Palm IIIc or waited for the color Visor to come out.

Peace!
