"Massager" is really a misnomer. It applies "Electronic Muscle Stimulation" which means it zaps your muscle with electricity to make it flex itself. It doesn't vibrate or anything.

BTW, the link in the article to the RayNet homepage just gives a (403) forbidden message.

I think I'm considering letting the folks at Good Vibes know. It's just an idea I had NEVER considered, and I find it way too amusing.

i find the module a little confusing. is EMS the process that people pay to get done to their muscles as a way of exercising them?

i overheard some folks one time talking about hooking their abs up to an electronic device (at a clinic). the machine would then stimulate the muscles and therefore strengthen them. is this what this device is supposed to do?

Wired has an article on it.

ahem, ahem, and I quote:

quote:
The Handspring Personal Massager's "stroking, squeezing and tapping" motions do not interfere with the PDA's other functions, so a user can work on their Handspring while being fondled by the device. [...] Multitasking massagers aren't a new technology. [...] A 1918 Sears and Roebuck catalog offered a multitasking vibrator, [...] sold as an "Aid that Every Woman Appreciates" also came with its own personal strap-on fan.

Vibrators, still often and politely referred to "massagers," were among the very first inventions of the Industrial Revolution, according to Kim Camp, a self-described sex historian and "merry madam" in Manhattan

That's toungue-in-cheek.

To mensachicken: yes, you've got it right about EMS. As I said, it's really unfortunate that they chose to call it a massager. Maybe it let them get around medical device regulation?

The first guy to integrate the personal massager module with the Palmasutra program is going to be a freakin' millionaire!

I think it's really overpriced. You can get one a lot cheaper by going to http://www.igia.com/cfm/product.cfm?ID=AT6717 and it's got 8 pads.

Okay, I swear I've only read about this, but PDAENVY there ARE actually companies that make more private versions of this device and have downloadable wav files to ehmmm "play" with.

Okay - we're starting to sink here. Time to bail before the gutter police arrive.

Thumbs up massager

I just got mine delievered today and it works great!
I've been using it on my back and neck for a great massage. As far as using it as a workout replacement I'm doubting it would do much to get rid of my spare tire. And it says this on all I've seen except for the IGIA one " Do not use above the neck"

oh and for all those that keep asking "do not use near any genital areas"

and since it's a springboard module that's 1 less thing to carry around, plus it has a good software interface with many options.

$99 is a good price as the quality ones I've been looking at run approx. $300 and these only have indicator lights, no GUI. The IGIA one does not look like a long lasting product, the pads look very cheap.

Exclamation a reply to myself

Ok just to make things clear the following line I posted earlier
is taken from the manual, and was not a from a personal experience! If it were I doubt I'd be able to type this.

That's JUST what I would want near MY genitals...electricity. Remember folks, it doesn't vibrate...it sends out small electrical pulses that make your muscles flex...

oh...right...
