What are the best economical alternatives to keeping the visor clean (concept kitchens screen clean) and keeping the visor scratchfree (writerights)? id appreciate any help! just ordered my visor about a week ago.

Many people prefer a product called WriteRight(sp?) which is essentially a peel and stick sheet of plastic that covers the screen. I have always been "sticky-challenged" and could never get the darn things on straight without any bubbles (Used to drive me crazy).

Some of us old timers (dang it, dad blab it, consarnnit, et al...) back in the old days of the real PALM Pilot, used some easy peel tape from 3M that came in a blue plaid box (#303 or something like that). Get it in 1 inch widths to cover almost the whole Graffitti area and cut to fit. It gives a kind of papery feel and last about 2-4 weeks depending on use. Then you just pull it off and put another on (It leaves no sticky residue).

I wish Concept Kitchen or someone else would produce some transparent semi-rigid sheets such as Casio or NuShield (for Newton) that slide under the case sides and still allow touch screen use. I'd do it but I'm also power-tool challenged as well

I agree with the above, except that I find the scotch tape lasts a lot longer.

I used the same piece of tape on my PalmPro for more than a year. It gets a little more shiny in the center, but does not tear and still works great.

One of the first things I did with my Visor was to put a piece of tape on the silk screen area. This time I put it all the way across the number and character area because I have discovered the MiddleCaps Hack and like to use the option of crossing that middle line to capitalize.

I just thought of this last night, and haven't tried it, but what about those clear address labels that you can get for laser printers? I think they're Avery labels. I was wondering if you might be able to get those in a large enough size to trim down to screen size. The only other question on them would be clarity.

I'd be concerned with removablity too. I wouldn't want something I couldn't easily remove!

I was wondering about the plastic that you use to insulate windows. It is pretty thick, and I think it would stick without adhesive, like the "stickers" you get from Jiffy Lube telling you when you're due for your next oil change.

I took an overhead transparency sheet and cut it to the Visor screen size plus about 1/8 inch on each side. I was able to slide the transparency under the edge all the way around and it works great...

I'm still using the stock stylus and it's scratched the heck out of the transparency, but it's certainly saved the screen.

And what the heck is up with the visor dlx stock stilus! With the delux I would have thought that it would have come with a stilus better than the stilus from my IIIx . the stock stilus with my palm IIIx kicks ass over the visor stilus. I have ordered the fivepack of stilii for the visor but I would just like to know my screen is going to still be useable by the time I get them -- god knows when that is going to be.

After searching in vain for WrightRights in Los Angeles over the weekend, I used sliced up an overhead transparency as a substitute. The correct size is about 80mm x 70 mm. It fits under the sides of the display screen; the top and bottom of my unit are too tight, but the sides hold it fine.

Cheap and easy. The surface is a bit slick, but no scratching! One sheet gave me five or six "protectors"!

LarryD you are a genius!!

I ran to the drawer in my office and grabbed a couple of overhead transparencies on friday before leaving work. I cut a few to the visor screen size and i've been using it all weekend!!

It works great and allows me to press as hard as i do when i write on paper without scratching the screen at all!!

I think you may have put WriteRight out of business.....

there is the same amount of glare (too much) with the overhead sheet on the screen. One thing i have noticed (and i didn't think anything in the world like this existed!!) is that the overhead transparencies scratch alot easier than the screen!!! but they are disposable and i've made up a bunch.
The transparency lasts approx. 3 hours of Traffic, 1 hour of Giraffe, and 3 hours of Hardball....plus the usual memo writing and stuff.

I found Xerox printable window decals at Staples. They are 8.5x11 clear sheets that are supposed to stick and remove easily from almost any smooth surface. It was about $8 for 5 sheets. Looks like this may work. I'll let you know when the FedEx guy returns with my Visor!

I tried using the excess material from the window sticker that came in the box. If you're careful you can get enough to cover the graffiti/number area and almost all 4 of the hotspots. Sticks fine, protects screen- but scratches easily.

Beavercreek, when you remove the tape, does it leave any residue? I just got my first scratch and am looking for a cheap way to protect my screen...

I had been using cut-up overhead transparency sheets to protect my Visor, and they did work rather well.

But they did suffer from the two drawbacks: glare and they scratch up.

I bit the bullet and tried the cut vinyl approach mentioned on http://www.geocities.com/SiliconVal...4/screenpr.html

What a difference! The glare is reduced, the screen looks wonderful, and this vinyl stuff is very scratch resistant.
The cons are:
[1] trying to cut a piece of vinyl to a perfect rectangle the correct size will drive you insane.
[2] you really need a drop of oil or lotion or something, otherwise it is almost impossible to get rid of all the tiny bubbles
[3] getting the protector properly placed will also drive you up the wall
[4] if you haven't polished both the vinyl and the screen with lint free cloth, there will be one or two tiny specks that create bubbles

But in my opinion, the results are well worth the effort!
