HandEra's AutoCard 2.0 in Beta
By: LanMan @ 03:06 PM
HandEra has released a beta version of AutoCard 2.0, AutoCF's successor. It allows applications and databases on a CompactFlash or SD card to act as if they were stored in RAM. This new version, in addition to getting a name change, also allows the user to choose which folder on the card to pull from. Another major change is it no longer appears as a preference panel; It is now a regular Palm application.
The current version of AutoCF allows programs and databases stored on a Compact Flash memory card to be seamlessly accessed by the Palm OS. It is free.
Both applications work only on the TRGpro or HandEra 330.

This version of AutoCard will not work on non-Handera devices. However, we will release a version that does work on the Palm and Sony devices in a few weeks. I do not have pricing at this time, but AutoCard will remain free for TRGpro and HandEra 330 owners.

Whoa, hey, I wonder if, when VFS is finalized for CF cards, this will work with the matchbook??!!
How cool would that be?!

Post at the TRGPro Users Group:
AutoCard v2.0 Public Beta 2
Changes in a nutshell:
-Adds support for 0-record databases (Caused several problems
yesterday)
-Adds preferences for location of dot on AutoCard Programs
-Adds preference for using AutoCard category in Launcher
NOTE: You must follow the instructions in the zip archive for removing
AutoCF prior to installing AutoCard. The complete users manual is not
finished, but will be ready before release.
Launcher Prefs for AutoCF have no effect on AutoCard. You should ignore
these settings and use the configuration options in AutoCard itself.
To install over existing AutoCard beta, simply HotSync this new PRC file to
the device and perform a soft reset when prompted.
If running on the TRGpro, AutoCard REQUIRES OS v3.5.2 for version 35507 or
newer. This is the most recent released OS for TRGpro and is posted on our
website.
This is beta software, and you should back up frequently while using it.

Not sure, but I believe AutoCard is more like AutoCF which is like PiDirect, so AutoCard for m50x and Clie may or may not have anything to do with VFS. If CF card VFS is written to the same specs as the Clie and m50x and AutoCard for m50x and Clie is VFS-based, then it should work just like MSMount does, which begs the question: Who would pay for AutoCard for m50x and Clie, which is what it sounds like Handera wants, when MSMount seems to work now and for free?

MSMount is good, but slow. I would pay (a small fee) for a faster solution.
