Most telnet or terminal applications currently available online appear to be those dedicated towards the use of a modem or null modem cable attached to the serial port of Palms or the USB port on Visors. As such, they do not utilize the TCP/IP stack within the PDA itself. With wireless modules now available, we are no longer tied to the cabled modems and we can make full use of the TCP/IP stack. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that software developers are following that line of access yet.

So far only Palm Telnet is the only application I have been able to find that will actually use the wireless module for access to other systems via Telnet sessions. All others will crash as they try to access the USB/Serial connection instead. While this program is robust and does what we want it to, it does have an annoying quirk where it has a built in virtual keyboard that appears to disable the one built into the OS itself, which also means that you cannot use a Stowaway keyboard for it either.

The ideal Telnet application would be one where you can use the Minstrel S modem and your Stowaway keyboard. Any suggestions on Telnet applications that should do the trick?

I've been using Top Gun SSH for a while now (there is a telnet version as well but frankly these days it's nuts to use cleartext passwords...). It works, but interoperation with the Stowaway isn't good, it was designed around entering text a line at a time and the Stowaway doesn't work well unless you bring up the virtual keyboard and type into that with the Stowaway. On the other hand, it's the only SSH client I've seen so it's the only game in town.

I've tried Top Gun but it only looks for a serial/usb connection and doesn't seem to want to use the TCP/IP stack that I can find. The documentation is a bit lacking, nor is it very intuitive. I like the concept, but not the execution of it.

It looks like the version I had of TopGun was incomplete or inoperative. I was able to get TG SSH installed and it worked correctly on my end, but unfortunately I don't have a hole opened up on my firewall for SSH right now so I'll have to see about fixing that soon. Doesn't look like TG has an option to disable SSH at all. A shame, but it's closer to what I want. I still need to be able to use a Stowaway keyboard live in a window though.

The one thing I'd like top gun to have is vt100... (at least It doesnt default to it...) I'd like to use pine
