I am new to PDA's, so I have a lot of questions. In fact I'm so new, that I haven't bought one yet, but I'm leaning toward the Visor.

My question for now is, does anyone have any recommendations for personal financial software on a PDA? I run Quicken on my desktop, and I feel a handheld version of Quicken would be the killer-app for me.

I have already read reviews about QMate and Pocket Quicken by Landware, but I am still not clear about which is better. Or maybe there are other products that I'm not familar with that some of you might have experience.

Thanks for any direction you can provide.

I like QuikBudget (www.quikbudget.com). I believe it has Quicken support.

I've used both Qmate and Pocket Quicken, and I prefer the latter. I don't know what Qmate has done lately, but PQ has been *much* easier to sync. Also, if I remember right, PQ is the only one of the two to store categories on the handheld, and utilize "quickfill". I'd have to recommend Pocket Quicken.

Is there a shareware version of Pocket Quicken that I can try before I buy?

I don't want to spend $40 and find the program bites.

That's what I intend to do when I get my PDA.

I'd check out PocketMoney from Catamount software www.catamount.com I used it for years on my Apple Newton. They have a version for the PalmOS which I'll be trying as soon as my new Visor arrives! It does export QIF files which can be imported into desktop Quicken, but I found PocketMoney did everything I needed, and I abandoned Quicken.

Keep in mind I haven't tried the Palm version, but I have nothing but the highest praise for the Newton version, and the company in general.

I'll second the recommendation for PocketMoney. I'm a satisfied user of PocketMoney on the Newton right now, and I plan to switch over to the Palm version as soon as I order my Visor.

I've played with the Palm version via the Palm OS Emulator, and it looks like a pretty good adaptation. That still isn't the same as a real user endorsement, but PocketMoney is the undisputed leader among finance apps in the Newton world, and it has a very devoted user following.

I have used Pcoket Quicken for about 6 mos. and it is great. I love the security and the ease of sync. The auto-fill is better than the one on the desktop.

Just remember that Quicken must be closed on the desktop to sync.

From my Springboard topic:

I think that Quicken and Money should be loaded on a Springboard. This would allow for a true handheld personal finance app. You could keep your entire account register in the Springboard memory. You could also transfer all of your accounts instead of the dozen or so that most pocket finance packages now allow.
What do you think?

I both abandoned Pocket Quicken in favor of Pocket Money, *and* stopped using desktop Quicken. Obviously desktop Quicken will do
things no Palm finance app can do, but I found Pocket Money does everything I need, including pretty flexible reporting by account, category, payee, etc.

Again, I only have experience with Newton versions of these apps (Pocket Quicken and Pocket Money), but I expect a high quality product in the Palm version of Pocket Money. Pocket Quicken on the Newton was *really* lame and *really* expensive.

Can anyone compare features/differences in the Palm versions of PocketMoney, and Pocket Quicken? I hate to switch my desktop from Quicken to Money, but may do so if Pocket Money is a much superior product. I sure would like to see that Quicken Springboard!

I think you're getting a little confused by the name. PocketMoney on the Palm isn't dedicated to Microsoft Money on the desktop - in fact, it has nothing to do with MS Money. You can use PocketMoney on the Palm with Quicken or MSMoney, if you like.

PocketMoney is developed by a small, one-person development company located in Vermont (Catamount Software). The owner/author is Hardy Macia, and he's pretty responsive to user comments and requests. This is another nice thing about PocketMoney - there's actually a real person behind it, and you can actually send him email.
