Hi,

I recently bought a Visor Deluxe and love it. But I have noticed that I have some small scratches on the screen. Isthere any way to get rid of them?

Eric

I have a Visor and I was getting too many scratches on the screen, this is what I did, waxed the screen with the Green Turtle Wax, x2, then cut a piece of the poly that covers my windows in the winter to fit the Visor, then wash it well in hot water and soap, dry it, apply it to the screen and work the bubbles out (takes a while). I've had mine on for 6 months now and there are no scratches and it doesn't distort or degrade the view, except for a couple of microscopic bumps.

Do a search on the word "scratch" and you will see a lot of threads on the topic. Most of them will tell you how to prevent them. Bottom line, in my experience, is that once the scratch is there, it's there forever. I tried the following:

1. Car polish/wax;
2. Screen Clean (polish made for PDA screens);
3. Rain-X;
4. Displex (used for polishing scratches on cell phone displays); and
5. Smooth-top stove polish.

NONE of them removed the scratches. They all made the screen very smooth and easier to write on, but the scratches are still there. Also, I understand that you can get a replacement from Handspring for $85 if you are interested.

Now, I use writerights cut to the size of the grafitti area to keep from scratching it further. I purchased a PDA Panache stylus (very nice) and I polish the rest of the screen about every two weeks with Screen Clean to keep it smooth. I haven't had any scratches since.

Hope this helps!

Actually the best is to use a screen protector before using your Visor. It'll protect your investment and its worth it in the long run.

I used one of these by the way http://www.purplemoo.com
Tried Writerights and don't like them. They attract dust like magnets and make the screen blur.

I've been using WriteRights since about one week after I got my Visor. I love them. Yes, they collect a bit more dust and the screen isn't quite as sharp, but it's not unreadable by any means. I also like the rougher texture of the WriteRights better than the plain screen. It feels more like I'm writing on paper. It was definitely a good invesment.

I'm with Mokoni. I cut my protectors to match the Grafitti area and leave the rest of the screen exposed. With proper cleaning and care, the screen remains as good as new. I've tried two different screen protectors over the entire screen and, well, heck I paid for the Prism's color screen, I'm gonna enjoy it. Guess I've been using this method about a month. And it's been fine. And the Prism images are perfectly clear! Trade off is the screen is exposed. But, heck, the alternative is permanent degradation of the Prism's image with a protector. The screen is very durable.

sanchan, be careful if you're exposing the top portion of the screen. I did the same for my previous palm and my leather case scratched the screen. I believe it happened when some minute dirt got onto either onto the screen or leather case and somehow these 2 rubs together. The palm is carried in the hip pocket.

Yeah, D, I remember the leather case I got with my old Palm Pilot, left a permanent vertical mark where the pouch portion was sewn into the other side. SO, every time I closed it, that seam laid on the screen and -- whalah -- vertical mark, couldn't get rid of it. Good point. No more leather cases where the opposing panel has anything that compromises the screen.
