How do I get two Palms to sync on one PC keeping the data separate? Or even better configure some data to be separate and some shared? (WeSync seems to be an option for the latter part.)

I read another post which mentions dual Windows login configurations, sync'ing one Palm to Outlook and one to Palm Desktop, but I am having trouble with the windows login part.

Anyone out there that can either tell me a different route, or help me with the Windows (98) part?

Hey tyler,

I had to set up my win98 so that i used Palm desktop and my fiance used outlook.
(FIRST: Uninstall Palm desktop software completely)

in your control panel (under settings on the start menu) there will be an icon called "users". that will start a wizard to help set up multiple (2 in our cases) users on the same computer. It will ask you to come up with a user name and password (leave it blank if you don't have anything to hide from other users) and then it will run you through some settings (i.e: share desktop settings, etc.) here we selected to have separate desktops so that i have my icons and she has hers.
Once you have set up the users, try logging into each one separately (above the 'shut down' menu item on the start menu you'll see an item 'log off <username>'
Log on as the first user and install palm desktop. when it asks if you want to use outlook or palm desk, choose accordingly. and set up the way you normally would.
Once you're done, log off as that user and sign on as the other user.
Re-install palm software but this time choose the other option (i.e: if outlook for first user then palm desk for this user.) set everything up and that should do it.

Email problem we're having. you can only have one program set for all users as far as dealing with your email!
SO, i like outlook express but she uses outlook. so when it comes time to sync, i have to click on palm desktop options and change my email program to outlook express and then sync. then switch it back to her 'outlook' so that when she syncs with outlook she gets her mail! (sort of a modern day toilet seat thing here!)

otherwise everything is working just great.

hope this helps.

Question

I have a VDX and have been synching just fine to the Palm Desktop -- nothing fancy here. Now my husband has ordered a VDX too. He too will synch to Palm Desktop. Is this as easy as installing and keeping two Palm Desktops?

Previous questions/answers have delt with harder problems (different email programs/outlook and outlook express, etc.) Our 'problem' seems not so hard, eh?

Any help/advice out there?

Wink

Hey, lady with my wife's name...I saw "Barbara" and thought that my wife had registered...impossible.

The Palm Desktop is made to work with multiple users - you don't need to install twice. In the ~/programme/Palm/... directory, there will be a folder for you and a folder for your husband.

Thanks so much. I'll go get it ready for my husband to use when his VDX gets here.

From 0 to 2 PDAs in 1 month! (for our household) Also convinced my parents each to get one. I wonder how many Visor users are new to PDAs . . .
