Red face Backlight Dead on Prism

I was at work today and took my Prism out when I went out for a smoke. I turned it on and nothing happened. Tried a couple times, then figured the battery was drained.. I had been using it earlier in the day & it was fine but I had started getting the low battery warning.

So tonight when I got home I put it on the cradle for a couple hours and got the "charged light" (solid). I tried turning it on and nothing. Tried pressing the "sync" key & it sync'd fine. D'oh! I was looking at it and it seemed when I turned it on there was something there, so after examining it in the light I could see it was working fine, I had just entirely lost the backlight.

I was really worried about the warranty being close to expiring, as I had purchased the prism right when it was released and had not had any problems before now. Thankfully it was Oct 16th or so that it launched, so they should not give me any problems about that... just curious how common this problem is and if I should worry about problems with the replacement?

Also, when there's a problem and the warranty is close to expiring, do they normally extend the warranty after servicing a Visor? It would just suck if they replaced it only to have a problem 30 days down the line and have no recourse. I plan on getting a VisorPhone when my current service expires in October, but it would be worthless to me if the Visor's only going to last another 3 months.

i have been thinking about(alot) getting a color device(as soon as the cash starts rolling in). but i am conserned about the life expectency of the screen and rechargeble battery. i mean cant the light run out or "pop" like some old tv's light buld burns out? if so i dont know any web site that sells color screens. also the rechargeble battery cant last forever, and if it does it probably only lasts 5 min towards the end of it life right?

I just got mine replaced last week and I ordered it on the 23rd of
October last year. No problem with getting another one. You don't get
the warranty extended tho. Sucks, because Handspring didn't offer an
extended warranty when we bought ours.

That's strange, I had to get my Deluxe replaced under warranty (digitizer stopped working) and Handspring gave me a three month extension to the standard 1 year warranty. I didn't have to ask either.
