IR Sync or Serial Cradle?

I got my new Win2000 machine (laptop).
I reinstalled the Palm Desktop 4.0.1.
I got my Visor Deluxe to synch correctly, via the serial cradle, (since I never used the USB cradle on my previous Win 95 machine, and I unfortunately lost the USB cradle).
I also got it to synch correctly via IR (although you have to change the COM ports from Com1 (serial) to Com3 (IR)-- don't know why.)

So here's my question: would the serial cradle or the IR synch be quicker? (since I don't seem to have the USB cradle)? If I can find the USB cradle, would it be faster?

thanks

As far as I know, USB is faster than serial which is faster than IR.
