I am looking to find out what the leather case that ships with the Visor Deluxe looks like. Is it a folding case or abelt case? I think I have seen a picture somewhere but now I can't remember where. Any ideas?

I haven't seen the case yet, but I am very interested in how it looks...
I'm still doubting between the normal and the deluxe version of the Visor and would like to see the case before I make a desision..

bla; what a crappy looking case.

I want a slipper III like case that www.ebcases.com makes. Every other case i have ever seen seems so crappy by comparison. I "modified" mine by getting a grommet attached right in the hinge (at a shoe repair store for 2$). this way it is attached to me. YES a palm Chain wallet :-)

It's tough being young and remaining cool.

I got one of these cases, but cancelled my order for a Palm IIIx the night before the Visor debut. Just in the nick of time!

The good thing is that these cases fold over the palmpc and the sides are open, so the width shouldn't be a problem. This allows hotsyncing while still in case. The site has detailed photos, they also have some on sale for $15.

You forgot about the springboard...if you use the case (I like the style) you don't have acces to the springboard module or slot. Actually the way the case attaches to the unit would requrire a velcro attachment on the place where the springboard module will be located. Hopefully they will come out with something for visor, I like the way the case works.

i think that case will work, its just kinda bulky like that other "bumper" case. i rarely carry my current palm in my shirt pocket (i rarely wear a shirt with a pocket for that matter) so i guess its not that important if it will fit in your pocket. i guess the most important feature of cases like this is the ease of access in getting to your palm and using it. which from the pictures i see on the case you mention looks fairly simple. the belt clip option is cool...

You know, looking at a lot of these cases that are out there, leather seems to be a popular option. Ease of use, style, and simple to manufacture with. If you have any skill at all, it would be easy to make your own leather case. A quick trip to the hobby store and some drawings, measure and cut. if You want to get fancy, you could even sew in a liner or something. Then just use velcro to attach your visor to the case. The more I think about this, the more I like it. This way you can make a case for your own needs. (just to protect the screen) It would only take a couple of hours to do. Time to go scanning websites for design ideas...

Now, theres an idea. I like your "protect the screen" point. When it comes down to it that is basically it...protect my screen. Keeping it that simple would cut down on size. Some sort of "wrap" would be cool, I'd rather not velcro up my Visor and get gooey sticky tape on it. But putting velcro on the springboard(s) with a detachable "flap" that swung over and "grabbed" the bottom of the Visor would be very handy...


Oops, just thought of a flaw on that one. Some "springboards" will have "buttons" etc. that you wouldn't want to cover with velcro...back to the drawing board...

okay, this might sound a bit stupid but it could be a hint of a better idea. remember the old "rubber" wrap you could get for those swatch watches that would protect the face of the watch if you ever hit it against something? i see two main "musts" for a case :

1. protect the screen
2. protect the unit when dropped

so, if some sort of "wrap" was designed to protect the visor from an "angled" or flat drop it would be protected as long as the landing area was somewhat flat. yet a wrap would leave access to the unit open...no flipping/opening just grab and go or grab and start using it.

eureka! we need a springboard that when activated forms a small "force field" around the visor for protection...cool huh?

Yeah, that sticky crud that is left if you ever try and remove the velcro is a drawback. Too bad there isn't some kind of rail slide locking mechanism to hold your visor in a case. I also don't like the idea of sliding my PDA in some kind of slipper case. So it pretty much comes down to vlecro to hold your visor there. Maybe I will post some drawings of ideas. You just hope you can make it look good, it would suck to come into a meeting with people looking at your vosor and thinking "wow, but what the hell is that thing he is useing to cover it with!?"

I have made a couple of other mentions for cases and it seems to me that neoprene is the best material for the job. It is shock absorbant, would protect the screen and fairly easy to work with. There are a couple of neoprene cases out there. Here are some links and pics. I have something a little better than a simple pouch in mind, closer to the form fitting leather cases. I actually have the spare neoprene and some ideas, now I need someone who can sew neoprene.

Personally I think the standard case is going to be just fine.

It looks similiar in design to the original Pilot slip case which I find the most convenient to use. I don't want a zippered case or one with snaps or has velcro. I much prefer a case that I can quickly get access to the unit an yet offers some protection from scratches and perspiration etc. Hopefully it is snug enough that the Visor won't fall out and loose enough that the Visor can be removed without taking the whole thing out of my shirt pocket.

Hmmm, I like the case, maybe with a few modifications? Mostly, I don't want something big and bulky. Just a flap that covers my screen to keep it from getting damaged. Something that will tuck away behind the visor while I use it. Unfortunately drop protection just adds too much size to the darn thing. Although I like the Rhino Ti Slider case...but it is still too big. Maybe I can canabalize the visor case if it dosn't work out...Sorry Trace, I can't sew anything let alone neoprene.

I agree -- bulk stinks.

I can't whip out a neoprene case in a business meeting. Anybody have any stories on the leather ones...good/bad? Screen protection factor?

I agree, I like the orignal Pilot case. I bought a Pilot 5000 when they first came out (and upgraded it to a PalmPilot-Pro-equivalent with the upgrade chip/card) and I've always used the slipcase that came with it. The only modification I made to the case was to take out the plastic insert that served to protect the screen from pokes and gouges and replace it with a sheet of aluminum that I cut to the same shape. The thing's damn near bulletproof now.

Is the slip case to be used with or without the snap cover in place. Will a leather case scratch the screen without it?

Will the stylus scratch the screen eventually?
