Question

Has anyone been successful using the SoundsGood MP3 Player with Windows 95 and a USB to Serial adapter?

Angry MP3 players, no serial transfer, short warranty

I'm interested in any responses as well. I really wanted to add an MP3 player but w/o USB I'm out of luck. I can't believe they can't give you the option of using your sync cradle, serial or USB. A slow serial connection would be my problem not theirs. At first I was worried about the short warranty on one of the players now it appears I won't be buying and there is nothing to worry about.

Exclamation No USB Support

Just like to make it clear to all you people out there: USB DOES NOT WORK ON WIN 95. PERIOD. No matter what software and/or hardware you are using, Win 95 does not support USB (Microsoft even admits this).

In answer to whether or not you can get a serial connection to work, I would say, very emphatically, NO. I can't say 100% no, but having read the information on SG, and the review here on VC, it is quite clear they wrote the code for the Desktop software with USB support in mind, and no serial support. This lack of coding equals a lack of support for Serial users.

In response to your other comment-you do use your cradle when sending songs back and forth, but only a USB cradle can be used.

So, it would seem that you're out of luck if you have Win 95 or a serial cradle and want to get the SoundsGood. However, it is important to note that the MiniJam MP3 player DOES support Serial-so that would be the way to go if you're still interested in MP3s for your Visor.

Understood, I use OS/2 and only use Win95 occasionally. Don't want to buy Win98 just for moving MP3s

Could you point me to where you found that Minijam can use the serial connection? The review on visorcentral only mentions the MJLoader bypassing hotsync. Appears to be talking about USB w/ the speeds it talks about. Couple other locations I checked didn't give the specs.

Thanks,
Brian

...ummm, nope it doesn't. Wish it did, because I have one of the critters (MJ) and my archaic work is still rolling out 866Mhz PIII's with Windoze 95 on 'em...

Red face I stand corrected...

I'm sorry, I stand corrected, you are right, it doesn't support USB. I was thinking about MAC support, so I'm afraid all you pre-Win98 folks are going to be in for a bit of a problem. However...with the new Win ME and Win 2000 out, you are sure to be able to find a cheap version of Win 98SE for less than $80-just make sure you get the UPDATE and not the entire program.

I was advised at work today that there are USB drivers for Win95 and that I will be receiving a copy. I'll let you know how I make out.
