Smile SnapNType is here!

I got my SnapNType today, only about a month after I ordered. Although I am not unhappy with it, I am not really as excited as I thought. It is faster for me thatn grafitti, and quality of construction is very good. Keys ahve good texture, almost rubber like. There is a little 'click' feedback when a key is pressed.

Only negative is the steps you need to go thru to use it. Click on the SnapNtype app, click enable, close app, insert keyboard, open app to use, type away. Now, you only have to do it in this order if you have hotsync'ed, due to the fact that you need to disable the keyboard to hotsync. Also, the keys are smaller than I thought they would be, but I do have big fingers (read: fat).

All in all, it's cool, and i will be trying to write some long texts later and will give more feedback if anyone wants it.

I'd like to hear your further impressions. I ordered one, it hasn't arrived yet.

After further review...

Well, I don't have much to say about it. I have found that it was definately something I did not need, I do very little text composing, and the keyboard is not efficient way to use for contacts, etc.

Also, I am having some serious conflicts woth something on my visor. Maybe its afterburner, font hack, or the matchbook drive & VFSHelper...can't figure it out, needless to say I have been resetting my visor alot lately. This I won't blame on the SNT, because, hey, those are hacks, right. Unfortunately, aftreburner is a hack I need.

With Afterburner on (at least with the apps using the keyboard) there would be an endless line of letters as if I was holding down a key and not letting go.

Also, and this directly addresses quality, my "s" button does not input about 4/5 times. That is I press the "s" one, two, three, four....five - there it goes. I never realized how often the letter "s" is used.

Anyway, I thnk I am goin to send mine back. Hope you like yours more than I did.

Thumbs up Just got my Snap & Type

Works ok, and is what I expected of it.

Thumb typing will take getting used to. I installed the driver from my Memplug, and seemed to have a conflict with the Keyboard app for my stowaway. I needed a hard reset to solve it.

Curious though, I have no hacks, or afterburner installed. The stowaway was disabled, and I even did a soft reset, before installing the Snap & type. After backing up from my Memplug (which I used to backed up my prism before this fiasco, whew), everything worked fine.?

Anyway, I have found accessing numbers and punctuation is a little clumsy, but I have been able to type reports and get by. I am able to type on the thumb board faster than I can graffiti.

I work for a local city police dept. I sometimes write my reports with my Stowaway, but typing inside a patrol car is not convenient. Hence I now own a Snap & Type.

It allows me to stay on the road, and still get my paperwork done. However for anything longer than I page, I think I would find a flat table or return to the office and use a PC, or my stowaway.

From the looks of them, If they were available for the prism, I would have gone for the seiko. The buttons appear to provide better access to numbers and punctuation. Anyone else have thoughts on that?

In summery, if typing in cramped areas, a thumboard works well. However, if you can normally find a flat surface, go with the Stowaway.

I own both, but I am an early adapter.

Well, I got mine and so far I'm not very impressed. I have a RIM Blackberry (the 957), and that's what I'm comparing the Snap-n-Type to in terms of useability and quality. It's coming up pretty short. That said, I want to give it more than a week before making a final decision.
