now, I can only hotsynch at 9600

I have a NT machine with a serial cradle and palm desktop 4.

For the last year or so, I could always hotsync at the "as fast as possible" speed.

Now, I can only hotsync at 9600. I have tried the cradle in both serial ports and I have performed multiple soft resets on my Deluxe, but no luck.

Any ideas?

Check the serial port settings in HotSync Manager on the desktop. Also, check the port settings in Windows itself.

Not to be obtuse, but isn't 9600 the "official" fastest speed for a Visor serial port Hotsync because of the Visor's limited serial port implementation? I thought that was the limit because of the lack of hardware flow control on the handheld side. Now if you're asking why the "As Fast As Possible" option doesn't show up in your dropdown menu, I have no idea.

I have checked the Serial port settings via "Control Panel"-"Ports". They are both set at 128,000.

I used to be able to synch at "As fast as posible". I am sure that this was faster than 9600 baud. My synchs used to be a lot faster.

Then one day last week, I couldn't synch. I thought "oh oh, my cradle has gone bad". I then went into the Hot Synch Manager 3.04 - Local "tab" and changed the baud setting to 9600. I was able to synch.

I then started working my way up the list (19200, 38400, ...) changing to faster and faster speeds, and nothing.

Going back to 9600 baud, I was able to synch again.

I can still synch at 9600, but it takes sooooo long. I'm hoping someone else my have had this problem.

I'll see if I can find another PC here at work that I can load the Palm Desktop onto and connect to it with my serial cradle. That way, I'll be able to see if the problem is with my Visor/Cradle or my PC.

Thanks

do you mean 115200? Serial ports can't be set any higher. if it is set to 128000, set it back to 115200.

3 things to check, a couple of which you appear to have done already.
1. serial port comm rate in the Control Panel. Should be set to 115200

2. Desktop hotsync manager serial port comm rate - set to 115200 or as fast as possible

3. Visor comm rate - Under Preferences/Connection. Select Direct USB/Serial (or a custom config if you have one), Edit, Details. Direct USB/Serial is limited to 57600. If you create a custom one, it can be cranked up to 115200.

If all of these check out, then I guess you might have
a) bad serial port
b) messed up serial port drivers
c) bad cradle

although I would think that if it was a or c, you wouldn't be able to sync at all.

Cool

Thanks, imabug. It works again.

It turns out the Visor comm rate was set at 9600 (via prefs-modem "tab"). I reset it to 56K and it now synch much faster again.

Thanks again
