Face Plates for Deluxe

My wife's VDx Blue face plate has cracked near the power button. I have read all the posts about getting Handspring to replace them but her unit is now almost two years old and they said $80+.

I have been to gethightech.com and they have some plastic replacements but I was looking to do a little better. I understand the new Neo and Pro use heavier duty plastic cases, are they the same exact form factor as the Deluxe and is there any chance I can get Handspring to sell me one?

Or are there third party metal cases that are reasonably priced?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do-it-yourself faceplate

If all else fails, grab yourself an ice faceplate from gethightech-whatever, and dye it.. your own custom faceplate!

I've used some leather dye I had from other projects to color the ice cover a chilling light blue.. Couple more sessions and I could probably match the case.

Good luck anyways!

Look Who's Watching

Don't worry about it so much - get the "Look Who's Watching" faceplates which cost under $30 - they work just fine, and are highly customized.

Rather than ordering from gethightech go directly to the manufacturer in Hong Kong - it's cheaper, larger selection, and they respond very quickly.

Lemme warn you folks first, although the faceplates from Surplus HK may look pretty, they don't fit well!!! I've tried it before and it ain't good..

Firstly, after installing it, my digitzer will hang if I press the second or third hardware button...

Second prob is that the plastic is very soft... You can call it flexible if you want...

Thirdly: the faceplate will stick out a little from the bottom, and this poses a problem because your Visor WILL NOT sit properly in the cradle. It will tend to "bounce" out a little...

Fourthly: your Visor hard-cover cannot be used, as it will be VERY tight fitting...

Conclusion, I re-installed my original Visor faceplate and kept the Who's Watching one away...

Anyway, if you are interested to get it, I want to sell it off at a much cheaper price... I'm situated in Singapore so there definitely will be shipping charges.
Email me at [email protected] for details Thanks

If you want to do a little better, looks like you can buy only the front half of the housing for $100 at Dave.com. Looks very cool. Let her try to crack that one.

Have you actually checked the prices at gethightech.com before saying that? $19.95 plus shipping from Hong Kong doesn't seem significantly cheaper than $19.99 plus shipping in the U.S.

Wink

I prefer QUALITY over QUANTITY, so if you really want something that lasts, get the Dave Design's Aluminium faceplate.

Better than plastic.

Do these machined aluminum cases show fingerprints easily?
