Xircom Springport modem error

I just received a springport modem. After plugging it in, setting up my network connection, I tried to connect with Blazer and MultiMail. Both were unable to connect (due to a PPP timeout error) and now when I try again, I keep getting a message about being unable to open the serial port. I reset the visor, removed and plugged the modem back in, but nothing seems to work. Any help?

Chris

This may seem like an off the wall response and it might not solve your problem but based on my experience with the xircom modem you might have low battery problems

Try replacing the batteries - the xircom can be very tempermental when the batteries start to get a little low. Sometimes it doesn't take much of a drop for it to act up other times it will be fine. Almost every time mine started being weird new batteries cleared up the problem.

It's a good fast modem when the batteries are full or close to full power.

You might also like to check whether your new springport comes with the lastest software. Here's the link for thespringport modem support pages now that Xircom has been swallowed up by Intel.

Oh yeah, and don't don't worry about the fact that the only option in the os menu is Palm OS 4.0, the download works fine on my VPL
