The Forbes name carries a lot of weight, so I am very perplexed about an interview I just heard on CNET Radio. This clip can be found at 23:30 mins into their taped broadcast. (Not the live stream).

They were talking to either the senior editor or a senior anlyst at Forbes.com. This person thinks that Palm and Handspring should merge

quote:
"since they both are going after the Pocket PC market"

I always thought that the PPC was going after Palm OS market share. But since Forbes would never say anything so backwards, I must be an idot.

The quote said market - not market share.

I think that the PPC market means hi-res, hi-color, multitasking, fast-processor, etc.

Hmm.... To me, she sounded like PPC had 70% of the PDA market, and Palm / HS were the upstarts.

A few other things as I listen to this again:

If Palm/Hspring has any hopes of remainig the dominant paltform in the face of PPC....
What's the current conventional wisdom on the 2 - 5 year outlook for Palm OS v PPC?

Palm Focuses more on software devel and licensing....
Didn't someone post here that 95% of Palm revenue comes from h'ware?

Buying a Palm or Handspring is not in Apple's DNA
I'm not sure what "DNA" means in this context, but isn't Jobs itching to accquire one of the two? Didn't he make an offer a while back for H'sring?

It's pretty horrifying how often and pronounced the screw up of these journalists is -- how long has the data we're being spoon-fed been rancid?

In the rush to be first, accuracy is compromised. The Forbes editor should know better though.
