Unhappy

I have been using my backup module successfully for a few months. It has saved me several times!

This morning, when intending to do a quick backup, I noticed that it doesn't show up on my Main screen when plugged in! I usually leave it in my VDx, so I pulled it out and put it back in again. No luck. I have done this several times, and when the unit is off the backup module turns on the Visor, but still doesn't show up on the screen.

Has my module gone bad?

Take out the module and look inside the Visor's Springboard slot.

Pray that all pins are intact and straight.

Check the module to be sure that a pin has not broken off the Visor and lodged in the module connector.

Good luck.

Pins are okay in the Springboard slot. Nothing appears broken in the module.

This is ominous. There is something that rattles when I shake my Visor...I hadn't noticed that before. Uh oh...

If you have the Handpring custom stylus, you *could* open your Visor and see what's rattling inside. They won't know if you open it.
If something is broken, leave the piece inside, put it all back together and contact Handpsring about repair/replace.

Cool

I took the backup module back to Staples, and the guy there let me test it in one of their floor model Visors. I plugged it in, and it recognized it. So, problem with my VDx?

Took my Visor home, backed up everything with BackupBuddy, and took apart my case to look for a loose connection. Nothing to be seen, so I just dusted off the cards and put it back together.

Tried the backup module (all data had been lost from handheld during take-apart). It worked.

Restored everything onto the handheld. Backup module now works!

I'm not sure why, but I'm not complaining. Thanks for the advice, PDAENVY.
