Question

I should be getting a replacment VXD in a few weeks. What is the best way to transfer all the info and programs I have on my current one over to the new one? Thanks for any info and tips.

If you use backup buddy, no problem just insert the replacement Visor and sync. The first time it'll load everything. If your current Visor is dead and you didn't have backup buddy installed prior to this death than you'll just have to sync and hope that any additional software, beyond the installed core software, loads on the first sync.

If you haven't added any additional software other than the core software than it won't be a problem just sync and your information will be restored on the first pass.

Backup Buddy is available at www.palmgear.com and is really a must have if you have added any additional software.

The additional software is not always backedup into the default backup directory for the Palm/Visor desktop software. BB puts it there and also backs up all of the preferences, passwords and personal tweaks that you've implemented.

hmm, could be wrong, but doesn't the c:\program files\palm\<user name>\backup folder contain backups of the current Visor's preferences, installed apps, etc.?
you should be OK to just HotSync the new Visor to the old username on the computer. provided you DID HotSync... if not, it's time to get funky with the IR port.

Johnny,
Yes and no!
The post I left stated as long as you haven't added any software other than the core software then you are 100% OK.
However, once you start adding additional software, especially if there is a corresponding desktop component, then it's not necessarily "backed up" in the backup folder.

The only 100% sure way to capture everything is backup buddy, if you have added additional software.

Trust me...I've had a Palm for over 4 years now and I've hard reset too many times not to know this.
