Question Remove VisorPhone = Lockup?

Seems every time I remove the VisorPhone from the module slot, my VDX locks up and requires a soft reset.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks.

Are you in the phone app. when you remove it? Maybe switch to another app. then remove.

That was my first thought too. And maybe was the case early on, but after the 3rd or 4th occurrence, I've been sure to exit prior to removing the module, and still the same. Have even exited and turned the VDX off altogether before removing...with the same result.

But thanks for the reply.

Try one of two things:

1. If you have TrekSounds Hack on, turn it off. TrekSounds captures so many system events that sometimes it causes a system lock-up when you try to pull out a module.
2. Try turning off the VisorPhone first before unplugging it. Thing is, even if you switch to another app, the VisorPhone is actually still working in the background. Turning the phone off is the only way to ensure that it has released all hooks on the Visor's system.

No TrekSounds here.

I thought I had done that, but will be doubly sure next time. May not be that big an issue. Now that I've got the E&B case to hold it all, the VP will seldom be removed.

Thanks!

I've had the same problem and have pretty much uninstalled everything on my VDX to try and see what the cause was. No luck. I turn off the VPhone, get out of all apps, turn off the Visor, but still when I remove the VPhone I have to reset the Visor before it comes back to life.

The same exact effect happens when I change batteries -- although I go through the same attempts to get out of everything.

Did you ever find out the reason or the solution?

Thanks,

Steve

I just picked up a Visorphone and I have the same problem. I also get a similar problem whenever I remove my backup module without exiting the backup program first.

My old Deluxe (the one I had before I broke the screen) never had any problems with the backup module being removed no matter what I did.

With the VisorPhone, it doesn't matter if I'm in Phone or not, or whether the phone is off or not. One time, I plugged in the VisorPhone and then unplugged it a few minutes later, without having turned it on, and it didn't lock up. But when I tried that again, it locked up again.

I have no idea if this is a Deluxe problem, a problem with only some units, or a problem only with some VisorPhones. I can tell you one thing; it's pretty darn annoying.

Add this to the cost of Data service through Cingular (required 4.95 a month plus .15 a minute - ouch) and it's pretty obvious why HandSpring hasn't sold a whole lot of these things. It's a shame, because the module is awesome in and of itself. It's just not cost effective.

Exclamation

I also have the phone module and experienced two lockups today. It appears that if you pull the phone module out while its power is still on, the phone turns off. Reinstall, phone remains off but can be turned on manually or via the visor. The problem appears to be intermittent, probably dependent on what app the visor is currently working. While it can be annoying, it's not a serious flaw. My advice, turn off the phone before you remove the module, or at the very least wait 30+ seconds after you turn on the phone, should you decide to remove it.

Sorry, forgot all about having started this thread. But no, never did find a true solution. The workaround has been to essentially leave the VP in the VDX *almost* all the time.

Is anyone who has experienced this problem running anything but a Visor Deluxe? If Prisms and/or Platinums aren't experiencing the problem, perhaps it's an OS thing.

Is this an issue with all Visors, or just the older models like the deluxe? (I just got one explicitly to use with a visor phone module)

Are you guys using Launcher III or a non-default launcher?

Sometimes when I remove my Red-M Blade (Bluetooth) I get a Fatal Error. Something on the lines of "Wrong card" or whatever.

It doesn't happen everytime, but only now and then. The card lives there and is only removed when I want to use the Backup module.

The same thing happens to my deluxe and digital link and the ONLY programs I have on at the moment are Eudora Mail and Blazer. Hopefully we'll see a software update to correct this bug.

I have the VisorPhone for a week now and had this problem early on. At the time I had just installed a new address book (SuperNames) when I got a fatal error. However, I associated with removing the VisorPhone while possibly still powered - I've noticed a slight delay when you power it off to when it's actually *off* i.e. I pulled the VP out just as I was powering it off. Only a hard reset resolved the issue and I didn't put SuperNames back on. I'm using a Visor Pro and at the time didn't have any of the bundled software installed so I'm not convinced it's a software issue.

Lightbulb I never lockup if I.....

1.) Turn off the VisorPhone
2.) Press the DateBook Button (I'm mapped to DateBook+)
3.) Remove VisorPhone

It seems if you pull it when it's in any VP modified app you crash.

Yep

This is a well-noted problem when removing many modules from the VDX, not just the phone. It is typically solved by entering an app that is mapped to one of the hard buttons, not just exiting to the launcher from the phone.

Try what bharnois says, it usually works.
