Question

Does anyone have any comments about how well Outlook integrates with the Prism?

Thanks!

Susan

Just the same way it does with the Visor, Deluxe and Platinum.

It works well. I have no complaints.

I don't have any experience with any of the Visor products and Outlook, actually. (I'm currently using a Palm Pilot with Franklin Covey's Ascend software, but due to work considerations might have to move to Outlook. And if I do that, I'm considering upgrading to the Prism.)

So, I guess the question is, does Outlook work the same on the Handspring products as it does on the desktop?

Short answer... no. Outlook does not reside on the Prism at all. However, using the PocketMirror software (included on the CD-ROM), you sync the handheld apps (AddressBook, DateBook, Tasks, and MemoPad) to Outlook on the desktop.

Limitations of Pocket Mirror Synching

Within Outlook, you can have multiple phone numbers and emails for a single contact. You can have up to 5 phone/email fields using any Palm OS device within the OS's Address Book program. If you have more than these 5 fields in Outlook then you'll have to map them to the 4 User Fields of Outlook in order to get them to sync with the standard Palm Address book.

My work around on this is to add any additional fields or data that I want attached to a contact into the notes field of the detailed address book view inside Outlook. These will now show up as attached note to a contact on the handheld device.

Example: I have a contact for my company and attached to it is a listing of the various voice mail extensions that I regularly use this note field contains names and extensions for about 40 people. There is a size limit to attached notes to a contact and I believe (not certain) that that limit is 4K.

If your using Ascend, I thought it had an option to use Outlook as the base program and Ascend could link on top of Outlook and then you could still sync to your Palm? I'd check with Franklin to see if you could get a shareware version of Ascend that link as mentioned then you might not have to totally relearn a new PIM. You can always upgrade to a Prism after trying out this type of configuration.

Just a thought.

Outlook also has a journaling option for tracking all types of contact data. This is not a functionality of Pocket Mirror but they do have a separate program that allows you to map this data called Pocket Journal. You might chose to use this program as a log of activities with a specific contact however I use a program called Action Names Datebook by Iambic software that allows me to journal activities using the note field that shows up as previously mentioned.

They do, but the opinions posted on the Franklin Forum are pretty uniform that the Franklin Planner software for Outlook has major problems. That was my first choice, too!

Thanks for the detailed info!
