Okay, so what are the chances that on July 1st, Handspring will actually start charging people $399 again for the Edge?

I'm thinking that the price will simply drop to $299, with or without an old Visor serial # or other handheld.

The ending date is just a way to get people to buy now instead of later, right? A brilliant move, but a marketing ploy, for sure.

A lot of people are surmising that perhaps soon, Handspring will release a color Edge, possibly at the price of $399. They wouldn't tell us that now, of course, because they're not dumb enough to make the same mistake Palm just made with the M505. If this is the case, the Edge would have to stay at $299.

Either way, I'm starting to think that the new Edge price, coupled with the Visor Phone deal (which I'm sure will stay permanent, too) are going to finally get me to part with my Deluxe. I just can't help the urge to wait until July 2nd, just to see what Handspring has up its sleeve. I probably wouldn't go for a color Edge (even though I would want to) because the price is bound to be at least $400. That's a little steep for a handheld (at least for my purposes). But who knows? Maybe it will be more than just a color version of what's there now. Maybe I'll let my temptation get the better of me.

Whatever they do, I hope the price of any new unit won't be above the $450 mark. You're getting close to PocketPC territory there, and at this point price is still the main reason why people buy Palms instead of iPaqs, no matter what they tell you about simplicity.

I'm a Mac user and a world reknowned Microsoft hater/ basher. But even I'm not going to try to kid myself about the Pocket PC being technologically superior.

Ask yourself this: if you could get a Pocket PC (with all the features of the best PocketPCs out there) for $300, would you even THINK about getting an Edge, an M505, or a Prism?

Does Julia Roberts work for Micro$oft?

I wish I could hold out for another month and see how this whole scenario plays out, but I only get clearance from my wife occasionally for new toy purchases, and I am under the gun to pick one up next week. Maybe I should pay for the 3-year trade-up fee that Best Buy offers?

He he. If Julia Roberts worked for Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised. Low grade quality that nevertheless becomes the popular choice. Same pattern.

I always keep the following question in mind, whenever I doubt my eccentric behavior: "When was the last time the general public was right about anything?"

Hey, when the wife greenlights new purchases, you gotta snap at the chance. Fortunately, I'm not married yet (I wonder why), so I can wait. Grab an Edge or a Prism now. I don't think anything Handspring does in July will make you want to kick yourself too hard. I'm just too curious myself to pass up the chance to wait.

well, I am gonna snap up something - but I am lusting after the 505 form factor, and I want color. that's why I am jonesing, I want the color edge bad...

as is looks now, I can get a sweet deal on a 505 through a family member (my mom works @ sears and they price match online vendors too, so I can get it for about $400 - 10% employee discount($40) = $360) Not to mention if they offer another one of those 'sears days' type storewide % off promos (hope I am lucky).

so, sadly I think I am jumping ship to the palm...

You need to pretend you like JR if you want a chick to think you are sensitive... personally I just lump all her movies into that 'romantic comedy' realm which I hate so much. But you have to deal with them occasionally to make her happy

BTW, any movies with the 'FRIENDS' in it is usually a bad idea to spend $7.00 to go see

I don't know. At least Courtney Cox and Jennifer Anniston are nice to look at, even if they can't act to to save their hides.

Any other FRIENDS cast member, I totally agree, is definitely a deal breaker for a film.

Oddly enough, I don't mind Romance films, as long as they're not too cheesy. I know that eliminates a number of them, but there are plenty that are okay.

JR hasn't been in any of them.

Sounds like you're getting a really good deal on that M505. Don't feel bad about "jumping ship." You can always jump back the next time you convince your wife to let you buy a new PDA.
