Does anyone know about the ability to install and run the Palm Desktop Software on an computer with an Alpha processor? At work my computer is an Alpha 500mhz. It is supposed to run everything that an Intel processor can run, but it doesn't. For example, MS office '97 runs just fine, but when they tried to upgrade it to Office 2000, it didn't work. Also, when I got a new mouse I installed the software that came with it and that crashed my computer, and the operating system had to be re-installed. The computer is supposed to eventually be replaced with an Intell with Windows 2000. In the meantime I would like to run the Palm Desktop on my current computer, but I don't want to have it crash and have to reinstall the OS again. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

NT running on Alphas use intel processor emulation using
Digital/Compaq's software product called FX32 if it is running software compliled for x86 processors. In order for it to work (if you even have it loaded), you have to try to run the software over and over and over again until if "finds" all of the things it has to emulate.

If native software is available, you are better off with the native versions, as they run quite a bit faster and better.

Several software products are compiled specifically for Alphas. I believe that Office 97 had a version. Check to see if 2000 has a version for Alpha.

Microsoft has announced that they will not be releasing new version of Windows for Alpha.
