Talking

I just got an email from AvantGo customer support. While the current Palm version of AvantGo supports only 256 (8 bit) color, they are now working on 16 bit color and expect it to be available soon. I'm sure that "soon" means no later than the release of the new Palm Vc (or whatever it's called).

By the way, they also mentioned that they are planning to implement the Edit (cut and paste, etc) capabilities that are currently shown on the options menu but don't work. They tell me they have already been implemented for WinCE devices.

16-bit colour and the ability to copy text would be a WELCOME addition.

In fact, for copy text at least, it should have been implemented LONG ago.

I hope the 16-bit colour AvantGo will support both the Palm m505 and the Visor Prism. I don't know if anybody remembers this, but AvantGo doesn't support 16-level grey scale for the Visor Deluxe.

And before anybody says that only the Visor Platinum supports 16-level grey scale, I have to ay that that is not true- the Deluxe does not support 16-level greyscale NATIVELY, but certain programs (like Fireviewer for example) can be in 16-level greyscale on the Deluxe.

I've heard that Palm OS 3.5 natively supports 16-bit color, its just that Palm didn't put the right controller chip in their that could show it.

I would really hope that Handspring wouldn't do that as it would give their product a 6 month headstart, and it would end at 6 months.
