Unhappy

I've noticed that the IR beam on my Visor seems to be interupted a lot. I assumed this was because I was using it incorrectly, misranging it, etc. But I've found that the IR on some Palm's is much better...

Has anybody else had difficulties with the Handspring IR?

IR

My Visor Deluxe will not send anything other that a business card. Never sent it in, I really don't use beaming anyway...

I have helped several people solve this problem. Just use Afterburner and set the clock >= 20MHz. The default 16MHz doesn't work well on many units.

Settings

Would you be so kind and run down the settings you use for Afterburner. I just bought it but don't quite understand the settings.

Actually I have quite the reverse experience: Afterburner causes problems with beaming at >24MHz, but 16MHz works every time. Using Afterburner I could only get beaming to work sometimes at 24MHz. All other clock rates >16MMz did not work at all.

check these options:
0-ws core
fast mpx
fast page

I set the "Default" to Norm adn set clock for individual apps by tapping on the "Speeds" button. You may want to simply set the default to a higher value other than the default 16MHz.

It really depends on the machine. The default 16MHz is supposed to work by design. But if it doesn't work, changing to a different clock rate may help. The IR on my VDX works when the clock is between 20MHz and 28MHz.

Of course, IR not working at default speed can be considered as defect and it is reasonable to request for a replacement. However, if this is the only problem and the above method does fix it, I'd rather stick with it.

IR Problems

Hi there,

I've already posted in this forum IR problems, and I actually did not know the AfterBurner Trick. I had to call handspring, and the first chap I had on the phone just thought I was dumb or something and would not believe there is a problem.
However, the second person I had, although would not recognise there is a problem, sent me a new one.

On this new visor the IR works fine, but I can't overclock it above 22 Mhz where my original one easily copped with 32 Mhz. Strange, hu !!

Cool

Folks,

I've just tried the afterburner trick with my old one that I have not sent back yet, and it works great at 20Mhz.

Thanks to xjx for that.

But I still consider, this is a serious problem that Handspring should take into consideration.
