How hard is a hard reset?

Due to a recent problem with a backup module (see
http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...?threadid=12168) I've been wondering exactly what the different kinds of reset do.

Soft and 'no-notify' resets seem simple enough but what does the hard reset actually do?

Is there any difference between a hard reset and taking the batteries out for an hour?

This is all because my backup module problem wasn't fixed by a hard reset but there weren't any obvious hardware faults (bent Springboard pins, etc.).

I'm wondering if taking the batteries out would work better (reset some of the processor/bus stuff that is missed out by an OS hard reset).

Kev.

Cool

Better make it three hours.
I have heard that removing the batteries for extended periods will do a "super-hard" reset (i.e., it will remove some things missed by a simple hard reset)

Yes, I had a problem once that a hard reset did not fix. Leaving the batteries out overnight did fix the problem. I left them out for an hour the first time and my Visor still retained all its memory (I don't know how - I though you were only supposed to get a couple of minutes). So leave them out overnight and see if that corrects your problem.

A hard Reset is supposed to erase your RAM, and jsut leave the ROM. Than the Visor re-boots and everythings happy. Unluckloy though, certain settings are there, that need to stop getting power in them before there reset. It's like leaving a ocmptuer off overnight, and it magicly working.. (like my network did when I first started it.. I thought my mom was behind fixing it.. but I know better .. IT was the NEtwork Fairy!)
