Hello everyone!

Here is some information some might be interested in. Seems YY may have pulled their free modem offer?? Dunno but if they have, fear not, Omnisky has one that is just as good (but only for prism/plat owners, technically). Sign up for a year for $400 (~$33/month), get the modem for $100 (instant savings, no rebates/credits to wait for), free shipping (5 - 7 business days), as well as a $50 mail in rebate ($100 if you own a visor or visor deluxe already), and a leather case that will hold your visor and minstrel comfortably. OS is Mac compatible right out of the box too. Up front costs therefore come out to $500 w/ OS comapared to $480 for the year with YY (not counting mail in rebates b/c not sure what YY was offering). All in all, not a bad offer from OS, IMO. Hope that helps you guys out some.

Marty

P.S. I am very pleased with my Minstrel S and OS service running on my prism.

That sounds great, except for the part of paying $500 up front. If they let you pay by the month I might actually consider it.

Actually, OmniSky offers two service options: month-to-month ($40/month) or annual ($400/yr.). Both are unlimited usage. The modem costs $300.

There are several ways to get a discount on the modem. First of all, if you are a Visor Platinum/Prism owner owner you get a $50 rebate. If you previously owned a Visor or Visor Deluxe, and upgraded to the Platinum/Prism within the past couple of months, you can get an additional $50 rebate.

You can also get a rebate on the modem based on service. If you buy six months of continuous service, you get a $200 rebate on the modem, in addition to any rebates from the previous paragraph. (That would include six months of month-by-month or the annual plan, of course.)

So, you could get the modem entirely free if you just upgraded your Visor.

However, with the annual option, the savings are instant meaning your credit card is only charged $100 for the modem at the time of purchase. With the 6 month option, you have to wait 6 months to receive the $200 rebate, then it brings the cost down to $100.

And for those of us who still hang on to our dinosaur Deluxes (you know, the vast majority of Visor owners), YadaYada is the best deal out there. It's not worth $50 off to have to shell out for a brand new PDA, especially when there's nothing wrong with the one you have already.

Since it seems YY has pulled their free modem offer, I was just pointing out that another offer exists and is not such a bad deal. That's all, no need to get fussy about it.
