Question Desktop 4.0.1 caused mail sync failure

I installed the new Palm Desktop 4.0.1 and during the install it tells you to sync. When I do, it starts syncing Mail and after a little while it freezes up/quits. The red & blue arrows stop, it cranks away a few seconds and then nothing -- with the Hotsync window still open. I can't even click on Cancel (the whole computer is not locked up, just Hotsync -- i.e. I can still move the mouse around). I have to Control/Alt/Delete to close it.

After closing the install, tried to sync again and same thing. So now I'm really regretting the upgrade because I had no problems before and now I can't sync (anything, not just Mail). I even installed the upgrade again.

I have Windows 2000 and use Outlook Express 5. And it's set as the default mail program.

Anyone else have that problem and/or know a solution? Thanks.

Red face

Oh, boy, and I was planning to install it on a win2000 system. Not so sure now.

If I do, will keep you informed (Outlook 98 though)

Try having Outlook Express open and running before hotsyncing. Sometimes, the system can hang while trying to open and close OE itself.

Tried it with email open and that didn't help. Was able to set email to "Do Nothing" so the rest of my stuff would sync and that worked. But still annoying that they sell me on an upgrade to help things work better, even though I wasn't having any problems, and now something doesn't work. And on the HS Help site, they address syncing problems, but of course, nothing at all relevant or helpful.

This is very ironic. Having replied near enough a year ago that I may want to think this over, of course I forgot and installed desktop 4.0.1H on Win2000. Initially all went well, but last few weeks increasing problems with the synch hanging on the Mail. Pulling the visor out of the cradle, and using TaskManger to end hotsync will at least allow me to continue.

I installed the latest 4.0.1Hb, but it still shows the same problem.

Since I really don't use desktop 4, I guess I'll reinstall whatever came on the CD. and see if that works OK.

Not that i use amil a lot, but it is nice in a spare moment to delete some of the old stuff ( and it really impresses otherpeople with this mail capability...)

Simple fix down load palms email conduit from www.palm.com. The name email update version 3.0.4. Install on you computer and hotsync. That will fix this issue.
