I went into my local Staples this morning to see if the Prism really was in retail on the 16th... and there on the counter was a Prism dummy model. Great!
I asked for one and the assistant went off to look for it, but came back saying they had none in stock. What is the point of sending the display model without stock to back it up...?? Anyway, he offered to check other stores, that came back saying no store in MA had any in stock..!! He offered to try something else and give me a call back. I wondered what he could really do an if I'd hear from him, but by the time I got to work, there was a message waiting for me from him. His manager lives in NH and was going to pick one up from a store on the NH border and bring it down..!! They will have it by noon..!! I'm going back tonight to collect it.

Way to go Robert at Staples...!!!

BTW, I also went into CompUSA this morning and the dead-head in there said "we'll probably get it in the next two or three weeks". Avoid CompUSA..! They seem to be scaling back on Handspring stuff - at least in my local store. There are display models, but no stock of any models visible in the lock up cabinet. They do have SoundsGood players in stock though....

CompUSA in Indianapolis has a new Handspring display in front (!) of the Palm display. They had the Platinum and Prism, as well as having the glass case behind them chock full of boxes for those models.

CompUSA in Ann Arbor has the display models. I didn't have time to look in the case to see if stock was readily apparant.

There are currently only display models in Staples in Long Island.

Maybe it's not such a dumb idea. At least it's bringing (Handspring fanatic) traffic into the store.

CompUSA on 57th St. in NYC has the Prism. It's available for you to hold and play with -- it's not very loaded up though, so the only 16-bit program was CityTime.
