My desires for addtions to the Handspring software base:

1. Autolocking capability based on time since power off (e.g. commander lite)

2. Break the 4K memopad barrier

3. Enhance the memopad editor to all find/replace

4. A prompt when the desktop is about to override the visor (please)

5. A memory defrag option

6. A battery tracking tool similar to runtime

LifeBalance is a MUST to replace the ToDo list -- it's about 100x / levels deeper. Instead of just a dinky 1-5 priority system, it lets you list any number of goals, with sub-tasks. Then you list the places in your life you can accomplish those tasks (whether Home, Office, Mall, Anywhere, etc.), and optionally set the times those places are open for biz., etc.) -- and whenever you're there, that custom list will come up, with the possible tasks you might accomplish, in the order of priority you've given them.
Then it makes 2 pie graphs: the ideal balance for all your listed ToDo's, and the actual time you're really devoting to your goals.
They have a really well-documented site.
But it's $50.
Even for such a great software, that's too much, huh?
So if H.S. would adopt it, say -- and other Palm O.S. licensees did not, H.S. would again have a hugely compelling reason for people to by H.S. instead of any othe Palm O.S. vendor.

It would be great to have, in backup/restore options, CATEGORIES to work better. I have to redo all my categories in address book whenever a hard reset is necessary. With hundreds of entries and 10+ categories, this is a major pain!

Also, greater flexibility in the Address Book in how fields are displayed, and which fields are displayed, as well as greater customization of the primary fields, would be a big help.

Incorporating a basic DOC reader would probably help the uninitiated, as well.

The ability to have work and home addresses in the address book.

Better integration between address book, calendar, tasks, and memo.

City time more features like BigClock.

Built in diddlebug type program that would integrate with address book, calendar, tasks, and memo. Where you could attach a sketch to any of theses programs.

My changes:
1) Abolishing the 4KB limit
2) Beaming from Datebook+
3) Support for optional compression.
4) An e-mail app with support for POP3, IMAP and SMTP over wireline or wireless modems (and an option for no truncation)
5) Some sort of a web browser for use over wireline or wireless modems.
6) A sort of file system explorer that organizes records in a tree structure based on creator ID and allows you to tap a record and open it in the correct program.

The memopad SUCKS when it comes to word processing... I need something that can let me edit doc files.
A ROM dictionary for spell checking would be nice too.

30 some-odd post so far and no mention of this:

intuitive linking between calander, address book, and note pad!

It would be way cool to enter a phone meeting in datebook (ie: Call Julie) and be able to do a hypertext-type link to Julie's entry in the address book.

All in all, I'm pretty satisfied with the Palm OS. Just like anything else, you learn to work effeciently in the current environment.

As someone else mentioned a real word processor.

While a Spell Checker may be a little large, but having the ability to select Bold, Underline, Italic. Maybe even fonts and Alignment surely it isn't that difficult to implement?

I only recently got my Visor and I just can't believe that out of the thousands of programs available there isn't a real Word Processor especially with full sized keyboards out now for the Visor.

And IMHO writing with HTML codes to get these is not really exceptable.
