hotsyncs ALL the TIME

My stupid visor neo hotsyncs all the time. If it's turned off, it will turn itself on and try to hotsync. When I turn it on, it will try to hotsync. When I'm in the middle of using an application, it will kick me out and begin to hotsync. All of this while NO WHERE NEAR the cradle or computer. Can someone please help me? I've tried hotsyncing it with my pc, in hopes that the random syncing would stop, yet it still continues. I am two seconds from throwing that thing into oncoming traffic.

Should I do a hard reset? Maybe that would take care of the problem? But if I did a hard reset, would I need the CD software again? Because I don't have the CD anymore (Long story). Is it available online?

Thanks for all of your help!!

Dawn

Hmm... That's a new one for me. Have you installed a program called AutoSync? How long have you had the Visor? Has it always done this? Did it start doing this after you installed a particular peice of software? Are you running any hacks?

Have you tried a soft or warm reset? I recommend always trying that before a hard reset. They cost you nothing so there is absolutely no reason, IMO, to ever do a hard reset (which costs you your data) without first trying a soft and a warm reset.

A warm reset is done by holding down the up scroll button while pushing the reset pin in the back of the unit. Continue holding the up scroll button until you see the Palm logo. This causes the palm to restart without any system patches or hacks, etc. I strongly recommend you try this even if you think you don't have any of those.

Well I bout the visor in December 2001, and it was originally a christmas gift for my boyfriend. Since he used it like three days I started using it for little things. Kinda like a little black book/organizer. Ever since I've had it, it's done the constant hotsyncing. I don't know if he loaded something on the handheld to cause it to do this but the only programs I can't access are these: HS updater and Phone or...(thats all it says but when I try to access it, it says 30 day eval period is up). I don't have any valuable information stored in my visor. I mean I could save the phone numbers i have logged in and activities on my calendar if I need to do a hard restart. I just want this thing to stop hotsyncing all the time!!

Thanks

Have you tried a soft or warm reset? Even if losing your data wouldn't be a problem for you, why do it if a soft reset will work?

Does it seem to do it at regular times or is it random?

Have you checked to see if there is a program called Autosync installed? From the launcher screen, hit the menu icon (at the bottom left of the screen, next to the graffiti area), from the list that pops up, select 'Delete'. An alphabetical list of your installed applications will come up. See if Autosync is in the list (you may have to scroll down). If so, select it and hit the 'Delete' button. Then say 'Yes' if it asks you to confirm the deletion.

There is no autosync program installed.

I have done the soft and warm resets and it still does this.

It is Random and occurs also when I close the flap on my leather case (like a book and a little velcro strap straps on to the front to keep it closed).

Check the contacts on the bottom of the Visor. There might be something shorting across the pins causing it to start syncing. You might also want to check the Buttons page in the Prefs app to see if HotSync is assigned to one of the hardware buttons. While this is a longshot, it's still worth a look.

If all else fails, try the hard reset. If the syncing problem continues after that, you've probably got a hardware problem.

Angry

mmkay, i tink i found da problem. my visor is a piece o crap.
no, seriouslah...there is this one little spot in the bottom lefthand cornor of my screen above the contrast icon and to the left of the menu icon that starts my handheld to hotsync. I don't know why, but that is it. No where else, just that spot. And it does this when the device is turned off. Wacko huh? So how does one suggest I get this problem fixed??

Ok, it's starting to sound like a hardware issue. At this point I'd try the hard reset and if that doesn't work, call Handspring tech support.

If there is something on (or in) the hotsync connector which intermittently shorts out pins 3 to 4*, it would act as you described. Check the connector to see if there appears to be anything on it.

* Setting the Visor on a table with the screen down and the connector toward you, pin 1 is on the left.

Okay I did what you said, and I didn't see anything wrong with pins 3 or 4, or any of the other ones. They all look fine to me.
