Question

Hi all, got the 8 MG Module in the mail yesterday, and when I pop it in, the File Mover app won't show in the launcher. It does show the memory remaining(internal and card) when I click "Info" on the Applications drop down menu, but no File Mover 1.0 shows in the list of icons on the launcher. I've soft reset a couple of times, no dice.

I figure it's probably something else I have installed that's preventing it from installing properly. Anyone else have this problem out there?

After inserting the card, change your launcher view to the 'unfiled' category. FileMover ought to be there.

Talking

are you using a 3rd party launcher?

i know that's what happened to me... i use handscape, and it doesn't recognize the file mover app, but after exiting to palm os it shows up fine...

i remember someone saying they had the same problem with launch 'em and silver screen...

i have silverscreen 1.4 and there have been instances where i've loaded an app and it didn't show up in silverscreen's unfiled screen, however, after 'exiting silverscreen' (going into regular PalmOS GUI) and then re-entering silverscreen, the app was in the unfiled screen.

not all apps have done this.

Thanks for the replies. I did install a freeware launcher at one time - I can't remember which one because I only had it on for about 15 minutes before I deleted it. The thing crashed my visor twice in that time. I believe what's happening now from your comments is that I didn't delete all of the files that pertained to the Launcher.

I'm looking through the list of culprits in my delete view: Do any of these guys sound guilty? I can't identify any of these with an app...

libmal
bckimgdb
Messier Objects
NetLibrary
Network
WDC-50

Again, 'preciate all your insights out there...

Well, Libmal belongs to AvantGo.

I wouldn't go near the "Network" either. I think that goes to the network hotsync.

I am fairly sure Messier belongs to Star Pilot.

Exclamation

OH NO!!! NOT WDC-50!!!!

just kidding...

i'm not sure what that file is for. I don't see why there would be any files 'left over' from a launcher that you deleted. but then again, i'm not a computer whiz!

Thanks for the advice guys. For the record, I got a response from Handspring Support last night, about 24 hours after I sent it in. This is what she told me to do. I'll see if it works tonight...

Dear Brian,

First, try this:
- Remove and re-insert the Backup Springboard module. Then perform a soft reset on the Visor.

If this isn't working, and you are referring to the Flash module, try this:

Update File Mover on the 8MB Flash Module to v1.1 and reformat the 8MB Flash Module.
1. Download the 8Mb Update.zip file from http://www.handspring.com/support/t...dule_update.asp
2. Double click the 8Mb Update.prc file on your desktop computer to launch the Palm Desktop installer program.
3. Perform a HotSync operation with your handheld (without the Flash Module inserted).
4. Insert 8MB Flash Module into Visor.
5. Tap the 8MB Update application in the Visor's launcher screen and the updater will execute.
6. Tap the Update Now button, wait for updater to finish the first step.
7. Tap the Reset button. The Visor will reset and the update process will continue. (Note: it is important to wait until this final step has completed before you remove the 8MB Flash Module from handheld or damage to data on the module may result).
8. You must reformat your module after you have updated the File Mover to V1.1. Choose Format Module from the file mover Option menu.

Thank you,
Handspring Technical Support
