Edge Stowaway Keyboard!

Just received this e-mail from Think Outside:

"We appreciate your interest in our award-winning Stowaway Portable
Keyboard. We anticipate that a keyboard to support the Handspring Visor
Edge handheld will be available October 2001. We will notify you via
email once the product is available. Until then, we invite you to
continue checking our website at www.thinkoutside.com for future
updates.

Best regards,"

This is about the only accessory I'm REALLY waiting for!

The other keyboards just don't do it for me.

Interesting... The Sales people at Targus told me the 'end of the year'.

At this rate I might as well e-Bay my Edge and get a Platinum... at least I can get a keyboard for that one...

I don't understand...you're gonna trade in your Edge for a Platinum because the keyboard might be available in October instead of the end of the year?

OK ok... I thought better of that comment.. NO I'm NOT going to part with my cool blue Edge over the keyboard alone... but this IS ticking me off! I mean, I *use* the keyboard all the time. Well, I *did* on my PalmV before I (supposed) 'upgraded' to the Visor Edge. As it stands I might actually dust off my *Newton* for taking notes, emails, etc because it *has* a keyboard and then beam the relevant stuff back into my Visor (yes, you can do this).

Guess I'll just have to hang in there a wait a little bit longer..

Hi,

Funny, I got the same response from Think Outside and then it was for a September release.... Kind of a moving target 'eh?

Howdy,

I can't understand why it has taken think outside / targus so long to create a keyboard for the edge. All they need to do is make a new connector... how hard is that?

Hi,

Makes me wonder a bit too. They had the Compaq iPaq keyboard out pretty fast compared to the one for the Edge. Is the Edge a really small market share? With the new Handspring pricing, I wouldn't think so. Is everyone jumping on the PocketPC bandwagon? I can see the delay with the one for my @migo PocketPC (which is for sale - too big and bulky) but I would think the Edge market share is (or will be) WAY bigger...

You're right that it's easy to design one (which, IMHO, they shouldn't have to do, because HS should have kept the port the same, but anyway...) but with the Edge at less than 1% of the market, they may not see it as cost-effective. In a way, I think it leads to a Catch-22 situation--some people may hold off buying the Edge or buy something else because the Edge doesn't have the accessories they want (accessories, custom styli, etc.), but the accessory manufacturers won't ramp up orders unless sales of the Edge pick up.

Yeah, I, uh, just sat on the unprotected face of my VDX, and as many of you do, depend on my visor for scheduling, entertainment, news and other things. Handspring told me that it would cost $80 to get a new screen, and considering i bought my Visor for $250 (I bought early) I figured i might as well upgrade. So i bought an edge. Unfortunately, i found out that the edge is incompatable with my stowaway. I use my stowaway for school all the time and want the utility and incredible cool factor of an edge/stowaway combo! Please Targus! hear my calls for help!

Angry

Hello,

I just checked ThinkOutside's Web page and they have a keyboard for the yet-to-be released HP Jornada 560 already! Do we think Microsoft pressure on hardware folks? Granted, the 560 probably shares its interface with the 540 series but how different is the Edge interface from the Prism and Platinum? I think I'll be buying a Half Keyboard.....

Regards,

Bill

Is the half kb available for the edge yet?

I think the Half Keyboard is going to be out by the end of the year for the Edge. At the rate Think Outside is going that should hold out for them as well.

It was so weird this morning, I'm standing around, and all of the sudden, my feet get really cold. I look around, and everything that is touching the ground is quickly turning to ice. What could this be, I wondered? What terrible event was causing everything to suddenly turn blue? then I realized:

Hell has frozen over.

Well... I'm happy... but not enough yet. The CDW url that was posted says 'shipping in 1-2 weeks'. So it isn't out *quite* yet.

Also targus.com and thinkoutside.com still don't say anything about the stowaway for the Edge. Has anybody tried ordering it yet? I will have to email back this lady that replied to me at Targus and told me she'd email me when the keyboard is coming out. I can't wait to see what her reply is...

Ok.. got a reply back from the lady at Targus I talked with in the past. I mentioned that CDW has it for sale but the other sites don't have any word on it yet. She said:

'It should be available within the next 4 weeks'

Still not that encouraging....

I suppose that explains why the snow is thawing here in Minnesota....
